Should I just give her the money?

Sold a Mulberry bag last week for £200, was bought for £900 years ago and was in extremely good condition. P&P was clearly stated as £7 2nd class, I'm a bit shit at guessing and the bag was heavy. ANYWAY... she's messaged asking for the £3 difference between the £7 and the actual cost of £4. I'm worried if I don't give her it she'll start some kind of war against me and open a case and I'll have to give her all her money back, whereas I want to message asking if she's on crack and to go away.

If you went to a shop and bought something for £10 and when you got out the shop, checked your receipt and had been charged £14, wouldn't you go back in and ask for the difference back?

Whynotnowbaby · 20/08/2019 09:05

But presumably you packed it in something and then spent petrol money or bus fare taking it to the post office. She’s being petty and you can justify the charge but it’s probably not worth it for £4!

catlady3 · 20/08/2019 09:08

If you said P&P, not just postage, that seems really reasonable to me. Just tell her no. At least you've got proof she received the bag, so she can't claim now she never got it, and therefore won't be getting her money back (at least I don't see how she would!).

Fridakahlofan · 20/08/2019 09:11

yes, your time going to the post office costs. Just explain that!

chocolatiers · 20/08/2019 09:12

@winnerwinnerchristmasdinner I see where you're coming from, but that's just not the same situation. On eBay you see very clearly what the P&P is and if you aren't prepared to pay it then don't bid. If I think it's too expensive I literally leave the page, she agreed to pay £7 when she paid the price at the end surely?

Agree with pp it’s the packaging as well as the postage. Plus if you had the cost on the item then she bought it knowing it was going to cost that as it was clearly stated at time of purchase.

chocolatiers · 20/08/2019 09:16

I've just replied saying all of the above and seen she's also complaining it was sent 2nd class recorded. I post all my items that way and it's very clearly stated on the listings. Plus she was on holiday so not actually sure what her problem is. Oh well. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I've had this before, and I've demonstrated that I drove to the post office, paid to park and bought an envelope, they soon shut up when presented with that!
Or just send them £4, it's £4!

Most people add a bit on to cover packaging etc I don't think for a £200 item I could get worked up over £3 - I get more annoyed when someone charges £4 for a child's t-shirt that will normally go for under a £1 as a large letter.

Saying that I you're mad to send a bag worth that much second class. All she would need to say is it hadn't arrived and Paypal would give her the £200 back and I think second class you can claim up to £20 back? Just be aware for the future as people can be proper scumbags and it's the new ebay trick. I'd probably be relieved she was asking for £3 not £200. She will probably give you bad feedback too if you don't.

Greyhound22 · 20/08/2019 09:27

Sorry just saw it was recorded. I take it all back I thought it was just second - are you still covered for £200 on that?

LegoClone · 20/08/2019 09:41

It might be worth pointing out to her that ebay and PayPal fees are charged on P&P costs, so if you only charged the exact postage costs you'd actually end up out of pocket.
