What's the best way to post items?

I sold a couple of things on eBay a few years ago but someone said they hadn't received something I posted (which I found a bit hard to believe) and I had to refund them as I hadn't sent it recorded delivery. I couldn't really be bothered with it after that, but I have a lot of maternity clothes that I'm clearing out now and thought about trying to sell some on eBay.

Having a quick look at other people's postings, most people seem to post 2nd class but I don't really want the same thing to happen again. But if I charge for recorded delivery etc will it put people off because of the higher delivery charge? What's the best way to post things?

I always send things 2nd class signed for post. Haven't had any problems with that. Can you just charge £2.95 postage (normal 2nd class postage cost) and add the difference to your starting price?

If you send parcels regular (not signed for) post with Royal Mail, you now get a tracking number that gives you a proof of delivery.
You can send up to 2kg, second class, for £2.95.

But just be aware that if a parcel does get lost then you’re only entitled to a maximum of £20 compensation.

Thanks both, I'll maybe just try 2nd class regular post then for a couple of items and see how it goes. That's if they sell of course.

Yes I use the standard 2nd class parcel post for 2.95, for anything less than 20 quid. You get a tracking number which protects you from claims that the parcel didn't arrive.

I have had a few people claim that the parcel didn't arrive, I tracked the item and told them when it was delivered. Assuming that they were not trying it on it prompted them to go check with their neighbors, and the parcels were found.

Sold an electronic device for over 50 quid so sent that special delivery which cost me a few extra quid but it was then insured properly.
