I'm selling some clothes but everytime I opt for "returns not accepted" eBay won't let me continue with the listing. I've gone through the help section but no joy.
Any ideas? Smile

I take it you’re a private seller?

Dumbledoresgirl · 21/11/2018 09:51

I don't think you can refuse returns. I thought it was a statutory right yo be able to return items.

ShowerOfShite · 21/11/2018 10:27

I am a private seller. I've sold loads before but there seems to be a new sequence to list on the app.

I think distance selling regs mean you must accept returns.

RebeccaCloud9 · 21/11/2018 10:33

Hmm not sure but my listings are no returns. I'll check mine.

Oopsy41 · 21/11/2018 10:37

Mine have always been no returns, I remember setting this years ago but can't remember how. Lots of private sellers don't accept returns so there must be a way to do it

Oopsy41 · 21/11/2018 10:40

It's in the preferences settings. I've just tried to revise one of my listings to see and it's there, it's one of those virtual buttons that you swith to on/off. Hope that makes sense

RebeccaCloud9 · 21/11/2018 10:50

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the listing page and click on preferences, it's in the options there.

ShowerOfShite · 21/11/2018 11:40

I've tried changing my preference settings but they're locked.
I've never accepted returns so don't understand.

It's here on mine.

How to refuse returns.

I think distance selling regs mean you
must accept returns.

This doesn’t apply to private sellers, but refers to non fault returns only.

19lottie82 · 21/11/2018 12:46

Just a stab in the dark but try it on a computer rather than a mobile?

ShowerOfShite · 21/11/2018 13:50

Thanks everyone for helping.
I've been trying all you've suggested but I'm having no luck.
I think eBay have (for some reason) changed my account to a business one, hence the acceptance of returns.
I'm going around (and around) in circles on both the app and the desktop site.
I think I'll have to suck it up on these auctions if a buyer wants to return and then open a new account.
I'll lose my 100% positive feedback but I've wasted hours today and yesterday trying to sort it all out.

Their support on Twitter is quite helpful.

barleyreed · 21/11/2018 14:18

Have you called eBay? In my experience they are usually surprisingly helpful!

ShowerOfShite · 21/11/2018 14:43

I've tried calling but my network can't get through.

ShowerOfShite · 21/11/2018 14:44

I don't use Twitter

Just to say, as a pp wrote, it is the law that you will have to accept returns. This is in the case of the item not being described or faulty. Buyers would (could) go through eBay to mediate (PayPal too). So while you can tick that box, it does not mean in all scenarios there are no returns

19lottie82 · 22/11/2018 11:20

Hi OP - Have you have had previous communication from eBay confirming that they have changed your account to a business one?

Follow the help options until you get an option to call them and see what they say.

19lottie82 · 22/11/2018 11:21

Adore, yes but private sellers don’t have to accept “non fault returns”, such as “it doesn’t fit” or “I changed my mind”.

ShowerOfShite · 22/11/2018 15:08

lottie no previous contact with them about a business account. I've always been a private seller.

Very strange, I thought they would have at least sent you an email! I would give them a call and see what’s going on.
