If a seller has no return policy but the buyer isn't happy with the item and wants a full refund including return postage what would be a reasonable compromise?

If the seller is accepting the return they shouldn't have to bear any costs on the basis that the buyer isn't happy as opposed to there's something wronge with the purchase. They should also deduct their selling fees imo.

Is the product as described? Is there something wrong with it? Or did buyer just up and change her mind?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/06/2007 17:30

Depends on why they are returning really. Each situation on merit really.

I sent back an item recently because when it arrived (pre-packaged item), upon opening it it had a huge watermark type stain on it. I could have possibly attempted to wash myself but didnt see why i should - it was supposed to be brand new (even though I only got it for 1p - the P & P was £3.50).

The seller agreed to swap for another and recoup my postage. However, she couldnt get one in the same colour and so offered to refund the item the p & p and my p & p costs too, which she did.

I'd use them again on that basis.

product is as described but the buyer thinks it has marks on it - which it doesn't!

thanks for advice so far.....

i dont have a return policy but i would and have given a full refund plus postage back for a faulty item.

i only sell clothes really and wouldnt give a refund for someone not liking the item, or it not fitting them. too much hassle.

nightowl · 15/06/2007 17:48

did you thoroughly check the item beforehand? if you did, tell them so.

what's their feedback like?

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 17:53

yep i checked the item and IMO it's in good used condition as described.

buyer has 100% feedback but only a small number of transactions.

can't see any reason for their dissatisfaction with the item tbh.

can't be doing with the hassle so am prepared to do a refund of sale price but not postage - mine or theirs to return.

is that reasonable?

having a return policy or not means nothing.

ask them to return the item and so that you can see the marks. If the marks are there then you need to refund price plus both lots of P&P

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 17:59

actually, i've just fully re-read what they're saying and it's codswallop!

am getting annoyed now!

i would tell them to send back the item for you to check before agreeing to a refund amount.

nightowl · 15/06/2007 18:01

what are they saying?

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 18:05

i don't want to be too specific unless they're on MN!

good idea to ask them to return it for inspection.

thing is, i know it was sent in good used condition as described.

i don't want to get into a ruck with them but they're saying it's dirty and it isn't!!!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/06/2007 18:56

What on earth have you sold them?

Ask them to return it, with indications of what the problem is.

Thing is paddle - without seeing the listing or the item and description, its hard to say. Do you want to CAT me with a link if you dont want to put it on here?

you can email me at cheesy_pooff at hotmail dot com

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 19:25
