Non payment

I had an item for sale (had about 12 people watching) recurved an offer, accepted it. 2 days later no payment, so I sent a polite reminder that I was ready to post item as soon as I received payment. Now another 2 days has passed with no payment or word from the buyer.

What should I do?

I just want to cancel sale and re-list, not sure if I can though?

Open a non payment case with eBay. If they still don’t pay after 3 (4?) days you can get your seller fees credited back to your account and repost the item. The buyer will also receive a defect on their account.

PS there is the alternative option of submitting a cancellation request. If the buyer accepts then the fees will be refunded and you can re list straight away, but if they ignore it (which is likely due to the lack of communication so far), it can take a week to time out and push the cancellation through.

eBay's help pages detail it:

I've just had my first non payment case. Sent a polite reminder then opened a case after 3 days as no communication from buyer. They eventually paid after a further 2 days so I imagine they'd just not had the funds to pay me straightaway. Annoying though!

In hindsight I would open a case quicker as otherwise you lose the other potential buyers.

Open a case then just follow instructions via eBay
Be careful with opening Cancellations
There are options so either “ buyer asked to cancel transaction “ or “ item no longer available to sell “ ( can’t remember exact wording )

The buyer requests cancellation does not affect your defect rate as a seller , the one where you request to cancel as a seller DOES affect your defect rate

So definitely open the case ... you can then close it if they don’t respond and get your final value credit back and the buyer will get a non payment strike on their account
Don’t be tempted to leave them a negative comment on a positive feedback ( just makes their account looks more positive as not everybody reads the comments )
Just let them get the strike , usually more than 2 strikes , most people won’t be able to buy or bid .

I have my selling account set up to block people with two or more unpaid item strikes so it helps to keep bad buyers away .
