Refund issued by ebay, item still sat in my room.

Bought a horse saddle 3 weeks ago, paid for item via paypal, (£350 plus £30 p and p), saddle was a different model to stated one so requested a refund from sellar.

They ignored me beyond replying once stating item was the different model, but didn't think it was relevant.

Raised dispute with Ebay after the 8 days or whatever it is. Ebay found in my favour and sellar told to refund. Sellar contacted me and asked me to return item. Told her I could once she had emailed me a returns label. She asked me to post it back and ahe would refund postage. Told her she needes to accept return, and generate a label.

Repeated this for a couple of days. Sellar still not accepted the return, so ebay have now refunded the money.

I still have the saddle, sellar now down the saddle and the £380. And I still don't have the return label to send it back, or even the sellars address. Am reluctant to post it any other way than with a returns label from ebay generated by the sellar as I know it contains all the tracking information.

I obviously don't want to rip sellar off but she either doesn't know how to generate a returns label or I am suspicious she is trying to pull a fast one by later claiming the saddle was never recieved or trying to get out of paying the return postage.

If I hang onto the saddle until I have the label is there anything she can do wrt the money I have had refunded? And once it's posted with an ebay label on can she claim the saddle is damaged or something?

I rarely buy off ebay and am not 100% sure of the process tbh.

If you have been refunded then you don’t need to return the saddle and the seller can’t reclaim the money from you. I’m guessing that the seller was instructed to supply a returns label (as the standard eBay label wouldn’t cover such a large item) but they didn’t hence why eBay just refunded you anyway.

Personally, I would message the seller and give them the opportunity to send a courier to collect the saddle (at a suitable time for yourself).

Thanks Lottie, I might do that.

The more I think about it the less likely I am to put myself out for her. She didn't respond to my requests for a refund and ignored 3 messages asking to try and resolve it. When Ebay said that she had to refund she sent an arsey message asking for her saddle sent back and when I said I would but needed a label she just said "send it back, I will refund the postage at £16" but when I said it would cost more because I have to repackage, take it to the post office etc so £30 would be fair, she got arsey then.

Sent her a message earlier saying I would send it back, but she needed to sort out the P and P first. Will see what she comes back with. The saddle isn't worth £350, it also had some damage which wasn't listed or photographed so I think she is pissed off that her creative advert bounced back. It's probably worth £200ish, maybe less.

Am happy to return it, it's no use to me but don't want to send it and be out of pocket, especially when she has sat on my money for nearly 3 weeks and had it cluttering my bedroom up in a washing machine box she sent it in.

She can arrange a courier to collect it from your house. That way you don’t need to drag it to the post office. Ask her to contact you to arrange within 7 days otherwise you will assume you don’t want it back and dispose of it.

But as I advised you don’t have to. It’s up to you Smile

Well have had a couple of shitty messages from her demanding I post it back.

She then said she will transfer the £16.45 to my bank account to pay for the postage. And she wanted it posting tomorrow and a tracking number sending.

She charged me £30 for postage. Told het to send a courier for it and gave her some times I will be in next week.

Stupid, arrogant woman. She wouldnt have refunded me if Ebay hadn't so she can organise and pay for a courier.

What a cow bag.

You did the right thing. If no one appears to collect it during the times you’ve provided then do with it what you want.

Make sure you leave negative (but factual) feedback! And if you get anymore abusive messages then report her to eBay.

I’m a nosey parker so please let us know if she sends someone to collect it!

Frouby · 26/09/2018 22:13

She is either really stupid or really arrogant. She also messaged ebay to get them to contact me and give me her address. She's quick enough to contact them to get her saddle back, but couldn't be bothered to give me the refund.

If she doesn't send a courier by the end of next week I am charging her bloody storage at £5 a day. She's also selling lots of other horsey stuff on ebay and has done for a while so I suspect she is doing it for profit.

Will definetly leave feedback.

Leave the feedback sooner rather than later. I’ve had buyers completely cancel transactions when I’ve been sent the wrong thing so I couldn’t leave bad feedback.

I’d send her emails to eBay and also point out that given it cost you £30 in postage you require the same to send it back.

She sounds like a charmer, id also be really wary of allowing her to arrange a courier as she could claim she didn’t etc etc whereas if you arrange it you get the tracking info.

It doesn’t matter. The OP is under no obligation to return the item at their stage. eBay have refunded her and that cannot be reversed.

Allowing her to send a courier for the item is a good will gesture, not an obligation.

QuestionableMouse · 26/09/2018 22:35

Take lots of photos of the saddle. I know you've got the money back but it's an easy way to cover your arse.

I'd get a quote for a courier and send it to her.

Buggerbrexit · 26/09/2018 22:40

I’d still avoid and insist on prepaid postage label from the buyer.

19lottie82 · 27/09/2018 00:05

A prepaid postage label means the OP needs to lug a very heavy article about. Courier collection saves that hassle.

SpikyCactus · 27/09/2018 00:14

If it cost her £30 to post the saddle to you, why does she think you can post it back for £16.45?

Frouby · 27/09/2018 06:46

The £16 odd is what the postage charge was. She charged me £13 for the packing. Which was a washing machine box cut down and retaped together.

If she had been reasonable and genuine throughout the transaction I would have quite happily taken it to post off. But because she has tried to avoid the refund despite acknowledging that the saddle was a different model to the on advertised I am a lot less inclined to put myself out for her.

Especially as she has been arsey by message. She can book and pay for the courier, have spent enough time trying to resolve all this, plus she needs to pay for the postage because after sitting on my money for 3 weeks I am not spending anything on it.
