How do you convince yourself to sell on a loss?

It's kinda painful to see how low the items I'm selling will go. How do I convince myself it's the right thing to do?

I don't need the items, mostly impulse buys. Or clothes that didn't work for me. Or work, but are multiples because I used to be a hoarder and can get obsessive.

Looking at it logically, if it’s something you paid £20 for and are never going to use....

Leave it sitting cluttering up your house and never use it. You’ve lost £20.

Sell it on eBay for £10 plus postage. After fees you make £8.70, so you’ve only lost £11.30.

What makes more sense? It’s basic economics.

I recently had a wardrobe clear out and was shocked at just how many items I had never worn (labels still on). In my defence I'd had a job change and had a lot of smart dresses/suits that I no longer needed but had bought for work.

Rather than do eBay I took them to a dress agency (you basically agree a sale price and of that you get say 60% and the agency gets 40%).

Anything not sold after 2 months I could take back or agree to reduce the price.

In the end I made over £250 - the value of the items was probably nearer £700 new but the alternative was getting nothing and having a wardrobe stuffed with clothes I didn't wear (and them losing value as they fell out of fashion).

I liked the concept better than eBay (and it was easier as I wasn't posting items out nor worried about payments etc) but I probably could have got more on eBay if I'm honest.
