What's your best eBay bargain?

I've got the worlds largest oak mirror for £20. Looks like it's from a pub. I feel guilty sometimes! I use the local eBay feature and collection only and have got some incredible bargains. I don't understand why others don't. If you've never done it google 'eBay local' and then choose the area, 5,10,15 miles etc. I then toggle cheapest first.

I think because the furniture is invariably collection only there's a lot less people interested so most of my finds I've been the only bidder and got it for the starting price.

I was a bit drunk from the night before and bid 50p on a very nice but unneeded item of furniture. It was quite early on a sunday morning. We picked it up that day and we love it.
I also bid £1.26 for something I had no need for miles away and won. DP was working away but this obscure place was only a few miles from where he worked. I relisted that one and we got £26 for it and the buyer picked it up within 3 hours.
I had bought some quite expensive for me shoes as a treat having tried them on in a shop. I wore them for a couple of hours at work to try them on and they were ok. Did the same a few months later and realised I had blown £100 on winter shoes that I couldn't wear. Kept my eye on ebay for about 8 months for the same ones broken in but saw the same, brand new, the next size up. They came up this week bid or buy i now. The description was scant and only two fairly unpromising photos. I was expecting the worst really but they're here, look brand new and genuine - I've compared them with my still in box ones. I got them for £50 + postage. Now do I wait until the autumn to list the too small ones?

I bought a baby changing table for £5. It was a quite expensive one new so I was super happy

headinhands · 12/07/2018 16:46

Gosh on on all counts. I'm torn between telling my local friends about it and keeping shtum.

They don't need to know about it. You could have inherited or something. Good job I don't need a mirror or I'd be very envious.
I have listed furniture as collection only, and you get people asking how much to post it to .... Yeah right.
Collection only does limit who will bid, and people can be slow to pick up.

In my experience, people who ask questions never even bid on the item. They often haven't read the listing so despite the inside leg measurement on a pair of jeans being in the title and description you get a crappy message asking what's the inside leg measurement? and you feel obliged to answer. Or a named pair of trousers from a high street shop and they want the exact waist measurement and the exact hip width and you feel like saying just nip into the shop and try on a pair and get these immaculate one's I've listed for 99p if they fit.

If you list things collection only beware of people paying by Paypal and saying they never got it, or not picking it up at all, or sending someone else to collect it. I had a man in a van collect something for someone and he turned up 2.5 hrs late. It was dark. Buyer never even left feedback.

a Liberty 100% cashmere oversized scarf. £65 which I could hardly afford at the time. Was about £350 for the nearest equivalent in the shop. That was a decade ago and I still wear it and love it, although it is a bit holey now after getting trapped at the back of a drawer Sad

harrietm87 · 12/07/2018 17:05

Got one of those nursery glider chairs barely used and worth £300 for a fiver. Was collection only but then they seller said he was driving our way and would deliver for free as I was pregnant! I gave him £20 for his trouble (he didn't ask). So kind. I'm sitting in it now and it's been great for bf my baby.

calilark · 12/07/2018 17:08

oh and we once bought an £800 duresta sofa for £100 because it was butt-ugly and pickup only in an obscure village in Cornwall. Enormous 4 seater thing, bargain!

ALemonyPea · 12/07/2018 17:13

My in laws were looking for a new suite, could only afford a few 100 pounds. Saw one that was practically brand new, starting bid was £100. Messaged and offered £200, but seller wanted to let auction run, so bid for £200 and hoped for the best. I was the only bidder and won it for £100. It was immaculate and lasted them years. Was very comfortable as well.

Fleuried · 12/07/2018 17:18

A brora cardie for £30. I know buying cashmere on ebay is always risky but I love that cardie.

A £700 necklace I'd had my eye on for years for £17. Had it a little while, decided it wasn't me (thank goodness I didn't pay £700!) so sold it on for £55.

A garnet ring for about £10. Not hugely cheap but years later I still wear it regularly.

Don't use it so much these days.

woodhill · 12/07/2018 17:19

£22 dining table and chairs. Sold chairs on and used old chairs which co ordinated

DragonBone · 12/07/2018 17:22

A brand new double glazed upvc window - for £1! The guy was gutted lol

NoFucksImAQueen · 12/07/2018 17:23

Just Checked for Nottingham and theres nothing on there 😔

MikeUniformMike · 12/07/2018 17:31

I've always wondered why people bid before the sale finished, usually when there were no bids and they were offering something either a little more or less than the start bid value. These people never seem to bid either.
I have listed things expecting to make £££ and received 99p. The buyers are usually very embarrassed when they collect. They needen't be.

MikeUniformMike · 12/07/2018 17:32

e-mail not bid

Notquiteagandt · 12/07/2018 19:36

A bike for a fiver. Probally my best buy to date.

affectionincoldclimate · 12/07/2018 22:10

70 quid for a new Kooples parka which is the most stylish warmest mofo of a coat. Worth about £450 RRP. Chuffed doesn't begin to cover my joy.

19lottie82 · 12/07/2018 22:22

I’m a total trainers freak and got some really rare adidas trainers for £20. Whoop!

isseywithcats · 13/07/2018 22:01

a solid marble victorian mantle clock that weighed a ton and was working, for 99p collection only was so embarrased going to pick it up but the seller said thats what he was happy as he was doing a clearout

magicsoakingmyspine · 13/07/2018 22:07

I sold my conservatory for £5.

headinhands · 14/07/2018 16:47

I've just got a gorgeous heavy door curtain for a bloody fiver. I had to drive to a thatched cottage about 5 minutes away in the middle of nowhere, meanwhile dc complains that the curtain smells of bricks.

I sell loads of stuff locally for £1. Furniture. It is all decent but unlike free cycle if you sell on eBay they turn up. I list it on buy it now for £1.

MikeUniformMike · 15/07/2018 14:15

Now there's an idea. If it sells for 99p they get a bargain. By the time I've listed it, I've menatlly said goodbye to it.
I got a really fab piece of furniture for 99p. Bargain. I was at my friend's and friend was after a new piece of furniture. It was perfect. Friend didn't pay me for it. :-(
