Grr - Why do people e-mail me saying "Have you got a Buy It Now price for this?"...

... er, if I'd wanted to sell it on BuyItNow I would have put a BIN price wouldn't I ??

Do you offer it earlier to people if they contact you? Why would you? Surely you're likely to get the best price through auction?

...for the same reason that dealers attack you the minute you park up at a car boot. they think you'll give in for a quick sale.

hayes · 21/05/2007 17:57

If you know what you want for the item put a BIN on at that price, if they want it at that price they will take it. If not it will go to auction once someone bids on it. Its the chance you take

Ladymuck · 21/05/2007 17:58

Not always - sometimes buyers want something quickly, so if you've put it on a 7 or 10 day list they'll take their money elsewhere and you'll be left with whoever is left.

aDad · 21/05/2007 17:58

I get this every time as well. Totally agree with you.

I usually say no, and tell them to bid their best offer and hope it's enough.

Once I did stop the auction and let them buy it, but only because there were no bidders so far on my item. I think it's unfair if someone has already put a bid in.

sixlostmonkeys · 21/05/2007 19:37

I usually don't change it, basically because if I couldn't decide it's 'worth' when I listed then I can't when I'm asked... but I'm such an undecisive person anyhoo
I recently had one where the buyer said would you accept £20 BIN? - I added that BIN option faster than a fast thing from fast town

TwoToTango · 20/08/2007 20:12

I have just been asking for a BIN price - do I have to pay an extra fee if it add BIN option to the item?

sixlostmonkeys · 20/08/2007 20:39

yup

tortoise · 20/08/2007 20:43

Sometimes i email a seller for a BIN price if its something i desperatly need by a certain date.

Wilkie · 20/08/2007 20:44

I do this cos I hate having to wait around for a bloody auction to end if I want an item immediately. TBH, most people are happy to.

TwoToTango · 20/08/2007 21:47

How much is the fee if I add a BIN price - I can't seem to find any details of how much on ebay help?

GreebosWhiskers · 20/08/2007 23:05

I've asked for a BIN price a few times. I once offered £5 for an Ella's House bumhugger nappy & the seller refused as she had loads of watchers (her words). It sold at auction for £2.20

iirc you can't put a BIN price on an item that already has a bid so it's not really inconveniencing anyone.

1dilemma · 21/08/2007 00:07

I just e-mailed someone this very question but it was because I don't want to wait for the end and since the worth of the item is well tested I thought I would see what they said (no reply yet though!)

HappyMummyOfOne · 21/08/2007 08:58

I ask for Buy it Now prices as dont usually like waiting 7 or 10 days for an item to end. If they say no or dont respond, i just look for another item and dont bother bidding.

I only buy new things off ebay and you tend to get more Buy it Now options on new items anyway.
