I feel very sorry for the buyer, it seems that the item i have posted has gone missing in the post. this is the first time this has happened and im not sure what to do...........I have proof of postage.

refund them and claim from post office. i have never had a problem getting money back from royal mail, but do make sure you get a reference number when you call them incase cheque does not turn up

Send them the proof of postage and they can try and trace it - unless you've put something about it on your original advert. Usually I say something about not being liable but always obtain proof of postage. If you're feeling nice you can always offer to go halves on cost if they can't trace it.

DevilsAdvocado · 19/05/2007 12:58

I always send recorded

That way I can track and trace it.

Or if something important I send by special delivery. Not really that much more cost involved for the peace of mind it provides

3sEnough · 19/05/2007 12:58

....alternatively do what gigglinggoblin says!

stoppinattwo · 19/05/2007 13:01

the item wasnt too expensive about £5, will probably send them a refund and chase it up myself...........and hope that if it does arrive eventually she will be honest enough tell me

yup - refund then claim.

3senough - be careul about relying on your wording in the listing - no matter what you state about not being liable, a seller is ALWAYS responsible for ensuring an item gets delivered (not just posted) It is also the seller's responsibility to track an item, although i believe Royal Mail are changing this so that a buyer can track - but it is far easier for a seller to do it.

sixlostmonkeys · 19/05/2007 20:09

have you asked the buyer to contact her local sorting office and/or ask her neighbours?

helenhismadwife · 19/05/2007 22:07

I always refund and claim from royal mail, if I post or send the item it is me who has the contract with royal mail or the courier. If its a larger value item (this hasnt happened to me yet) I would wait until I received a refund but under £32 I refund and claim

southeastastra · 19/05/2007 22:07

you have to claim at the po and refund

so there
