How long to get refund?

Received some shoes - bad fault on them, can't be repaired (took to excellent 'old school' shoe mender who will repair anything and they said, there's not much they can do other than a bodge - and I should request refund and return).

Sent photos to buyer who agrees, apologises and told me she doesn't want the shoes back 'as she won't be able to sell them' and told me to put in a 'returns request' will issue a refund 'but won't be around for a few days'.

So I've put in the official Ebay returns request and posted the pics, but what now? I can't understand if she's able to communicate via message (very prompt responses) why can't she just issue the refund before disappearing for a 'few days'.

Surely it's a few seconds on PayPal isn't it, to refund my payment?

How long does it take and how long should I give her? Ebay automated response says if matter isn't resolved they will intervene after 20th May but that seems a long time to wait to get my money back. I've seen other similar items I'd like to bid on to replace the dud shoes, but wary of doing so until I've got the funds refunded.

Sorry to sound so dense, but first time ever I've had to 'return' anything.

Sorry - sent photos to 'seller' of course!

I'm the buyer.

As soon as the seller issues the refund it will take 3-5 days to appear back on your card that you used to pay with via PayPal, just like getting a refund in a shop.
If you paid with existing PayPal funds then the refund will be instant.

In this situation all you can do is wait and if the seller hasn’t refunded within 7 days of you opening the return request then you can ask ebay to step in and help.

Maybe the seller has spent the funds already and needs to transfer cash from her bank account to PayPal so she can refund you. This can take a few days depending on which method she uses.

Many thanks for that - much appreciated.

No problem.

And forgot to say, even though the refund should take 3-5 to physically reach you, you should get an email notification from eBay straight away as soon as it’s processed by the seller.

I've just been on there and got the message from Ebay to say she's done the refund.

She stated in a message she doesn't want the shoes back, so no label issued or anything. Am I ok to chuck them - as they can't be repaired and I can't wear them as they are - so just taking up space?

I don't want her turning round at a later date saying she wants them returned.

You’re fine to throw them away. If she accepts the return then she will need to pay £3.05 for a returns label, chances are she doesn’t think it’s worth that to get a broken, and unrepairable pair of shoes back.

The return request is now closed. Even if she wanted to, she couldn’t turn round at a later date and say she’s changed her mind and wants them back.
