Paypal won't let me withdraw money from ebay sales

As I am moving house very soon, several weeks ago I started selling a whole lot of stuff on ebay with the dual aims of decluttering and raising money for the move (months rent in advance, months deposit, moving van etc).

I now have a large paypal balance of nearly £1500 but have spent ages trying to withdraw it and it wont let me. It says "we need more information about you" and then just goes to an error page or it says withdraw on our classic site instead and when you try that and click continue nothing happens.

I have a verified bank account (and a back up one, also verified, a bank card linked to my account, a fully filled in profile with phone numbers, etc, have withdrawn money from the account in the past - so I have no idea what other information they need or don't have.

I have emailed them and they sent me a cut and paste wall of text which did not answer my question at all, I then sent an angry email asking them to answer my question instead of cutting and pasting generic non relevant responses. I got another wall of text back which basically said (or would have if they had kept it brief) "wait 72 hours and try again. I did and it still doesn't work.

I phoned them and it's all automated - impossible to speak to a human and you eventually end up in a dead end loop which tells you how to make a withdrawal (I already know how to do that ffs!).

I tweeted them and after 5 days got a generic reply which again fails to address or even acknowledge the question I asked.

I really don't have any more time to spend on this - but I need the money and it's my money - the results of many, many hours spent photographing items, listing items, answering questions from potential buyers, packing items, posting items, etc...

Is there any way to get hold of a human being at paypal without wasting more hours of my time? This must be one of the worst, most frustrating companies to try and get some kind of 'customer service' from. Yet you are pretty much forced to use them (and pay their 3.4% fees) if you want to sell anything on ebay.

Can you pay someone you trust the money from your paypal account then get them to pay it back to you into your bank account?

Other than that I cant think of another way of doing it.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 16/04/2018 12:24

could you send the balance to a friend or relative and have them withdraw it?
I know what you mean about PayPal, nearly impossible to speak to a human.

Try social media or CEO complaint. If you post on Facebook you'll likely get a non-generic response. If that doesn't work google the CEO email address which will make it a priority complaint for them to resolve.

Have you tried to withdraw it in smaller amounts? Assuming you probably have!

PayPal have a limit when you first start using them. I'm not sure what it is, but for argument sake let's say it's £1000 a year in received money. Once you've reached that, they need to see proof of address and identity to verify you. Almost everyone has to do it; some won't.

There should be an area in your PayPal account where you can select "lift limits" and upload the neccesary paperwork. Then you will be allowed to withdraw.

I have a business account so that might only be for businesses - if it is, then sorry for giving you useless info!

boringbertha · 16/04/2018 12:36

Is it something to do with having to wait for your buyers to leave feedback if you are a new seller before you can withdraw your money? I seem to recall that used to be the case.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 16/04/2018 12:37

yes i think business accounts are a bit different.

ohfortuna · 16/04/2018 12:46

I wouldn't leave 50 quid sitting in my PayPal account nevermind 1500 quid!

buttermilkwaffles · 16/04/2018 13:30

It does have a link that says 'view account limits' on the home page but when I click on it it just goes back to the home page.

Did try to withdraw small amounts, but still would not let me, comes up with the same error regardless of amount:

"Please provide more information. Please withdraw money on our Classic site instead. " Click on link to 'classic site' (old version of paypal site) type in amount and select account - click continue - nothing happens.

Paying a trusted friend or relative is a great idea - however I don't know anyone in that position who has a paypal account (relatives all live abroad and don't use paypal).

It sounds like it's the limit because your new to PayPal that is holding you back.
I remember when I first started off I could only withdraw so much a week/month then it wouldn't let me withdraw anymore.
However I don't know what you mean about ringing PayPal with difficulty, I have rang them multiple times speaking to an advisor and they have been very helpful. They are America based, every advisor I've spoken to have been American, they are lovely.
Try googling PayPal customer service number? Then ring that.

RedWineAllMine · 16/04/2018 16:14

Oh I see you can't withdraw anything. Something won't be verified on your account I'm guessing.

If your account is not limited and you have more than 1 bank,I would open a 2nd account under your real name as well and just send it like that.maybe in payments and not all at once or however they let you.also getting a free account with this one app that I have and they give you your own account # and debit card free and theirs no charges to use it or no interest rates or fees.atleast till now for me.maybe if you open it as a buissness then they do charge you but for personal I don't think they charge.i love it!Star
