E-bay member trying to claim money back as they have not recieved item

They only have 66% feedback, they hav'nt contacted me through e-bay and are trying to claim money back through pay-pal as they hav'nt recieved the item. I sent the item 1st class not recorded they did'nt ask for insurance, the item only cost them £6.99 but i dont think this is fair. If they had contacted me through e-bay instead of going through pay-pal i would of considered sending a replacement or refund. They seem to have a history of not paying/complaining. Do you think i should just refund them?
I have already sent them a shitty e-mail staying how i am so they will probably leave me bad feedback anyway.

Did you get a certificate of posting? I didn't receive an item recently and they buyer said that as they had the certificate they could claim upto £30 from the Post Office.

The items i sell only require a large stamp so i dont realy have a certifacate for posting, i might have a recipt for the stamps but i may of bought them weeks ago. I have had items go missing before and i have sent a replacement at my own loss, but as they only have 66% feedback i don't know if they are telling the truth and why hav'nt they contacted me through e-bay before trying to claim their money back?

If the item is more than you would be happy refunding out of your own pocket then you should get a certificate of posting for it, especially for a dodgy looking buyer like this. You aren't covered otherwise. Yes you should refund because you can't prove that you have sent the item and they may well not have received it. Why are you so angry with them for trying to get their money back through Paypal? They are perfectly entitled to do this as that is the payment method you accepted.

It sounds like their feedback suggests you are right about them lying, but without the certificate of posting I'm as sure as I can be that you can't claim from the Post Office.

I wouldn't refund automatically if their feedback is saying they don't make payments. Is that what it's saying? I would leave it to Ebay to sort out if you think they're going to leave bad feedback whatever the outcome.

Do make sure though that whatever the cost of posting in future, fill out a certificate of posting card and keep the receipt with it from the post office. That ensures you can claim if you need to. Good luck.

Proof of posting is the least you should get for every item.
I insist that all my ebay buyers pay for recorded delivery - it makes it so much easier in cases such as this.
Perhaps the item didn't arrive, and they are quite right to claim their money back.
Perhaps it did, and they are ripping you off, but you have no proof that you even sent it, unfortunately.

Im angry because they should of e-mailed me when they had'nt recieved their item, my listings state that if af they are unhappy or hav'nt recieved item to contact me through e-bay ASAP. I would of sent them a replacement, but they have left it 3 weeks and tried to claim their money back with a shitty message saying 'give me my money back or send me another '

I offer recorded delivery they chose not to take it.

I have tried charging for recorded and then peole complain the postage is too high and i find it harder to sell items.

If they have paid by Paypal and you have no certificate of posting, they are perfectly within their rights to claim their money back through Paypal no matter what you say on your listings

they are not legally obliged to ask nicely or say please, either

sixlostmonkeys · 12/05/2007 18:22

I know its a problem that the higher cost of postage may put buyers off but at the end of the day the recorded delivery option is for the benefit of the seller, not the buyer.

It is becoming way too popular now for buyers, who receive a parcel sent ordinary post to claim they haven't received it. they know the buyer has no proof (tracking number) and that they will get their money back from paypal.

Maybe in future you could add to your refunds policy: no refunds given unless items sent recorded delivery. it's worth mentioning that you can send second class recorded for less money than first class recorded...

misdee · 15/05/2007 21:34

you have no proof you sent it, they cant prove they recieved it.

you have to refudn i'm afraid.
