Hi. This is not strictly speaking a question about Ebay but I figured this might be a good place to ask. So my debit card expired and I have logged in to Paypal to register the new one. But it seems they already have the details (long number and expiry date) of the new card and just require me to confirm it! My question is, how did they get this information? I can only think it was directly from my bank, but surely they wouldn't give my card details out to Paypal? I've definitely not had this before and I am a bit freaked out, to be honest! Anyone experienced the same? TIA

Hmmm, never experienced it no, and can't see why it has happened. Whenever a card expires I have to manually put in my new one.

I had this too. This article in the Guardian explains it.

Thanks for the link, Catzpyjamas. This is indeed the case but before I found out I phoned my bank who said they would never ever pass card details on like this. I then spent a tedious and stressful hour on the phone to Paypal. Was passed around to probably five different people, including in the fraud department, and not a one of them had a clue why this had happened. One person was in an absolute panic and said I needed to put down the phone immediately and cancel my card. Another said it looked like "some sort of automatic update" from my bank and not to worry about it...

I made a second call to the bank and I finally chanced upon someone who knew about this. It's obviously buried so deep in the T&Cs that even the financial institutions themselves can't find it.
