Being new to the whole ebay thing I put a bid in on a toy which is located in the same town where I live. (My whole point is that I could nip and get it if my bid was successful.)The seller is insisting I pay £8 postage rather than collect. Nowhere in their advert is it noted that the item is for delivery only. Also given how light the item is, the postage charge seems excessive.
Perhaps it's a case of tough luck in which case I will just have to pay the postage but I would value your views anyway....

you should have asked first whether you can collect .. I think you might have to pay it .. although if really out of order postage (is it heavy?) then you could report them

if you think about it would you like a complete stranger turning up at your house, some people just wouldn't

Piffle · 30/04/2007 14:37

you always need to arrange these things before bidding
Sorry.
REmember postage is not just for the stamps

powder28 · 30/04/2007 14:45

Also, a lot of the time the seller will make money on the postage too.
£8 sounds like a lot. What was the toy?

honeybrown · 30/04/2007 14:48

Well I guess I learnt a lesson here then guys. Good point about not wanting strangers at your door. Thanks for your advice - I will always ask first! The toy was a small amount of lego bricks... you win some you lose some!

ebay charges sellers for
listing fees extra for photos
final sale value fees
paypal receiving money fees
Most people also add abit on for profit
I don't

Always factor the postage cost in what you are willing to pay.

Although sellers are not supposed to profit from p&p charges obviously a lot do.

If you bid on something with a stated postage then you can't really complain.

Never assume you can collect. Sellers very rarely say Delivery Only although they may say Collection Only.

Hope you have an enjoyable time on Ebay. I love it!

I'm a great one for playing by the rules so am happy to go with paying for delivery if that is the way it is! I guess Ebay is like everything - you learn by experience!
