Dc used their Xmas money to buy an electric £150 scooter. It arrived prompt and they were delighted and played for half an hour happily before one wheel stopped working causing them to fall off (luckily not hurt) and it's it's not "fixed" itself after us doing the basic checks of looking to see nothing is in the wheel and turning it on and off (that's the full extent of my fixing powers)

I'm a bit of an eBay novice so not sure where we go from here, I emailed the seller last night but still not heard back and while I know it's not long dc is gutted they've put all their money into this and it's now not working. Am I better waiting to hear back or opening a PayPal dispute or something else?

It also says on the sellers page that returns are at the cost of the buyer, is this still the case with faulty goods as it's obviously a heavy item.

If I was to return do I wait till I have a new scooter or have to return and then wait for a new one?

Many thanks for any help Smile

Oh no, that's not fair! Maybe contact PayPal for advice and tell them the difference with the addresses, it sounds like it might be a scam and you can highlight that you were told UK seller but were sold 'inferior Chinese goods'. :(

Hi OP - I didn’t suggest you did it to annoy me? Confused

I’m assuming the listing detailed the item being based in the U.K., and not China? (Very common with eBay listings)

You need to phone PayPal and tell them that when you bought the scooter the stock location was advertised as the U.K., so you’re not willing to return it to China (as the price of sending it back tracked and insured) is more likely to be more than the items value).

Take a screenshot of the listing and send it to them if need be.

Thank you Lottie that's helpful, I already spoke to PayPal today but didn't really get anywhere as they are wanting me to prove I can't get a courier to send it to China but I can't get the refusal letter they are asking for as the address is in Chinese (picture) type writing so I can't even put it into the couriers system to search if that makes sense.

I hadn't thought about trying to prove the stock was coming from Manchester and can't prove on my listing now as I've been blocked but I'll see if I can find it on another listing.

If it wasn't my dc money I'd be tempted to just write it off Angry

You don’t need to prove you can’t send it to China, you just need to prove that the seller listed their item as being in the U.K.

You should still be able to find the listing, all a seller can do in terms of blocking you is to block you from buying or bidding on their items.

Phone PayPal again and keep pushing that the listing states the item was in the U.K. so you’re not willing to pay to send it back to China.

Lottie you're a star!! Phoned up again and said about the Manchester thing and the guys refunded the money right to my card.

Good stuff OP! Glad it worked out in the end 👍🏻

It’s common for Chinese sellers being able to list the location of an item in the UK even if it’s coming from China. I don’t know why ebay still allow it.

Well I think my days of buying anything from eBay other than phone screens (which we go through loads off) are now over, what a hassle when it goes wrong!

Have seen a similar scooter in smyths for £50 more so I'm just going to pay the extra for dc and have the peace of mind we can pop back to the shop if there's a problem.
