How do returns work?

I’ve been using eBay for years but never had anyone want to return an item before and this isn’t the best time for me financially so I’m in a bit of a panic!

I sold a toy I’d bought and no longer could afford last week but the buyer has opened a return saying it is not as described. It’s a bit of a tricky one as I can see where they’re coming from (it was pretty obvious what I meant so I get the feeling they’ve just changed their mind and have me on a technicality Sad).

The problem is it cost a lot to send so I’ve responded to their request offering a partial refund or to collect it before Christmas (so I could relist) but not had a reply. I’m now getting warnings from eBay reminding me to respond (offering a return/refund) before they step in.

I don’t know what to do. I don’t want ebay to decide the person can keep the item and have a refund but I think from the persons original tone they’re either trying for that or want to keep it all over Christmas then send back Angry.

If I ‘accept return’ how much will they take from me to cover postage? Will I have any comeback if it’s returned used after Christmas?

I’ve accepted the return and sent an eBay label which was over £10 cheaper than the postage I paid to send? Confused

Now awaiting a used toy back...

If the item is too large then chances are the buyer will contact ebay and you will be asked to provide another label that is suitable for the item.

I’d sit tight for the moment and see what happens, you never know the buyer might decide it’s not worth the hassle and just hang on to it.
