Sorry tortoise, nothing is the right size or gender for my lot

But bump anyway

(ds is wearing a pair of your dungarees today - I love them!!)

3sEnough · 05/04/2007 18:11

Sorry - nor me.

sixlostmonkeys · 05/04/2007 18:14

just had a look - nothing for me either

I haven't had a sale for days now - first time this has ever happened. It's all down to the reduced visibilty ebay have enforced (but didn't warn about) and now many businesses are suffering/gone etc - mine included. People are facing losing their homes because of this. i certainly can't pay any bills this month

I'm in a panic I can tell you.

If I could offer advice to you all it would be to check existing listings to see how they are going before you pay to list your own stuff.

tortoise · 05/04/2007 18:22

Thanks all.

Miaou glad dungarees are getting lots of use. Have some more age 2+ to sell they were on a sale thread on MN recently.

sixlostmonkeys. Sorry things are not good selling wise for you. Luckily i sell just to get extra pennies so not too bad if they dont sell.

What does the reduced visibility mean?

Have some stuff I keep meaning to put on.

tortoise · 05/04/2007 20:10

Thats the 1st 9 items gone unsold.
10 items left!

reduced visability - UK listings no longer show on the .com site. therefore all US ebayers for eg will not see our stuff.
At first I thought ok, it's only about 20% of my stuff that sells to US but then my sales dropped to, well, almost nothing. I then discovered that MANY uk people use ebay.com rather than ebay.co.uk, therefore even UK people aren't seeing our stuff.

it's bad.

I search a lot of categories regularly to see how things are going generally and now it's quite scary how hardly anything is selling, and if it is it's only for the starting bid.
In just a matter of weeks I've come across a lot people who have lost their livelihood.

tortoise · 05/04/2007 20:19

Wow i never realised UK people would look through .com instead of co.uk. Bad move for Ebay.

OP posts:
MrsWho · 05/04/2007 21:11

I didn't realise that either.

sixlostmonkeys · 05/04/2007 21:55

taken from a post on the ebay site -

Again, looking at the web stats, nearly 4% of the web traffic on the ebay.com site comes directly from the UK, So 4% of 57 Million (over 3 months) Unique ebay.com visitors (NOT JUST USA, BUT THE WHOLE OF GOD'S PLANET !) = 2.28 Million unique visitors located in the UK that use ebay.com to search for their potential purchases.

hk78 · 10/04/2007 22:26

thanks for the tip about reduced visibility, thought sales were a bit carp.

does anyone know why someone in the uk would search for items in the uk, using .com? i don't understand, am i missing something?

bermudatriangle · 10/04/2007 23:07

do you think it's because they are lazy like me, and just put 'ebay' into google then click on the top link (which is usually the .com one)?

sixlostmonkeys · 10/04/2007 23:12

I think some of it goes along the lines of...
Average joe gets a PC. He has heard of ebay. He fancies using it and auto thinks dot com - because he has heard about this dot com thing... so types in ebay.com and registers.

I auto shake my head at suggestions like this ..then i remember when i first got a PC and t'internet (and how I didn't know how to turn the puter off and had to ask my ds nursery teacher )

Then there are people who will use dot com because it's bigger and they want to see bigger things and not just the local shop iyswim.

sixlostmonkeys · 10/04/2007 23:13

bermudas got it!

  • not lazy, it's just what we do...until someone tells us differently
charlottegeorgiaolivermums · 10/04/2007 23:29

Had 20 items out of 32 unsold so relisted and sold 7 and relisted again and sold more just keep relisting and they slowly sell.

Don't understand bidders can't sell bnwt clothing starting under a £1 but sold a broken spot light and had 5 people fighting over it

saltire · 12/04/2007 14:18

I have just gone on to ebay.com and signed in using my ebay.co.uk user name and it's the same things that appear but all the thing I'm selling are listed in dollars!

Anyway I have about 10 items listed at the minute and three are selling. I usually wait a week or so and relist

dumbymummy · 13/04/2007 19:56

I sell womens' clothing, nearly all brand new with tags. I don't aim to make much money, and I don't charge post and packaging, but just lately, sales have been bloody crap. I've just started to pick up on this dot.com thing, and don't recall eBay making an announcement on it. I did used to sell a lot of stuff to the states (especially with Free P&P as you can imagine), but I haven't sold anything to the States in months. I'm making a loss on really good gear. If it keeps up, I'm going to have to knock it on the head.

sixlostmonkeys · 13/04/2007 20:35

dumbymummy - they didn't make an announcement, which is just one of the reasons many ebayers are up in arms about this.

I hope you find a solution for your selling

dumbymummy · 13/04/2007 21:31

Thanks, six. It's very demoralizing, but it's good to know that someone's listening!

goodnanny · 14/04/2007 15:47

its good news for buyers though!! (sorry to be insensitive), i bought a BRAND NEW platinum half carat diamond ring (from ernest jones) for less than £90!!
would usually go for £250-400!!
