Postage cost twice as high as advertised - seller sent the item.

So I won an item - High(ish) postage, then I get a message couple of days later that it was sent but postage costs twice as much! There is a photo attached of the "proof". They should have emailed me before sending the item to check if I'm happy with the postage, no?!? I would have said no then. I also noticed the serviced they used is a premium one, I would have been happy with a slower delivery. What do I do?

Also just looked at carrier's website and an item of those measurements should be priced as quoted.

Actually I rechecked and it might indeed be true - the item's measurements put it in a different pricing bracket but surely they should have asked me first if Imm happy with more postage??

You don't have to pay the extra postage. Just ignore it.

It's annoying for the seller but it's their fault they got it wrong on the original listing. Sometimes people actually list the postage incorrectly on purpose so that they get more and higher bids.

You definitely have no obligation to pay the extra postage. Its up to them to check before listing.

That's their problem. You are under no obligation to pay them more than was advertised and I personally wouldn't. They should have asked first. I wouldn't bother answering or if you feel compelled to a polite message along the lines of, 'It's a pity postage costs were higher than advertised. Perhaps it would have been all the wiser to approach and ask me first if I were happy to pay twice the advertised price to post, but as this was not given to me as an option I am unfortunately not in a position to cover the extra cost above the advertised price of postage.'

Thanks glorious, jam amd expat. They didnt ask for more money btw but obviously that's what they're getting at! Do feel slightly bad as it seems a genuine mistake (well, at least i can see how you could get mistaken when looking at pricing) but there's no way I'd pay so much postage!

Just ignore the message, I wouldn't even get into it with them. They know they are only entitled to whatever cost of postage they listed and they're chancing it.

You agreed the postage rate.
I wouldn't complain, no. But I would leave low stars for postage charges.

Sorry I read the OP incorrectly Blush
Just ignore it. Not your problem.

Genuine mistake it sounds like, but unfortunately the seller must pay the extra. It's not down to you at all to pay extra.
I have undercharged buyers numerous times with curtains (before I bought my beloved much needed weighing scales!) I just paid the extra, I didn't even message the seller. Seller bought it at the agreed contract price, therefore it's up to the buyer to pay any extra. They are just chancing it by the sounds of things yes, slightly cheeky I'd say tho too. But if you don't ask you don't get, so can't blame them!
But don't message them back, that way you will avoid any awkwardness with not agreeing to paying the extra.

I know it is their error but I would probably send them something towards it, not all of it though.

I won something for 99p a while ago, plus P&P and would have paid more. When it arrived and I had checked it over I sent them a bit more because I have previously had items that suddenly broke or got lost when I had won for 99p and then just as suddenly weren't broken or lost because they were for sale again.
