dh just called. I sold a maternity outfit via his account on ebay last week and he has just had an e-mail from the buyer stating that the item was not as described . The top part of the outfit is beaded and apparently there are three beads missing and she also said that the top would require a stitch to secure the remaining beads. She is threatening neg feedback. I said to dh that we should just refund and she can send back but really she only paid a fiver for it (it cost a lot more than that) and I checked all the beading before it was sent and it was fine. What does everyone here think? Am I doing the right thing. We are not very experienced on ebay as you can probably tell.

Blimey. Did you state condition? If it was "as new" I would be a bit cross but if you have said that is had been worn then I think that would be OK. However I only buy from people with 100% feedback so if you are starting out and want to continue then perhaps you need to consider a refund...

expatinscotland · 30/03/2007 14:39

The same thing happened to me over a friggin' £10 handbag.

Sorry, but I didn't refund. Then she ripped me off through PayPal. So I complained in writing to them about defrauding their customers by rogue buyers and threatened to report them to the Ombusdsman (this was when they were getting all that negative press on Watchdog) and they gave me back my money.

I have never used either Ebay or PayPal again and I never will.

I don't give a toss that she gave me negative feedback.

I'm not a shop or here to do business.

Your buyer is just another greedy c*&t and if I were you I wouldn't give her FA.

laughingduck · 30/03/2007 14:46

Thanks noodle and expat. The item was used and tbh I had only worn it a handful of times. I am so cross as I went over all the beading to check before it was even listed. It really is a lovely outfit too . Part of me would like it back so that she cannot get away with having a £120 outfit for free just because she's bullied dh into the refund IYSWIM. Wish I'd just offered it to a lovely mner instead now....

What you could do, is tell her that you are very sorry that she is not happy with the item, and as soon as it is returned to you, you will give her a full refund.

She will probably ignore you, but you never know.....

expatinscotland · 30/03/2007 14:48

A seasoned Ebay told me that if I ever sold on Ebay to list EVERYTHING as 'Sold as is. NO refunds, NO exchanges.' in the description.

NoodleStroodle · 30/03/2007 14:49

Bad luck. . Maybe I have just been lucky up until now and my ebay and amazon sales have all gone smoothly. Does your local NCT have sales that you could try for anything else you have?

expatinscotland · 30/03/2007 14:49

My greedy git of a buyer wanted me to pay return postage.

Nope.

Sorry, the hell with it.

I think a lot of people expect it to be like a shop where they can just walk in and demand stuff.

Well, it's not.

What galled me, laughing, is that she was basically calling me a liar.

laughingduck · 30/03/2007 14:53

Ok then, here's what I think I'll do. Ask her to send it back and give refund then offer it here ffp - tbh it is not the money that bothers me one bit, just that it was a really lovely outfit that I thought someone may get some use out of rather than me chucking it. Am still .

Oh, god, expat that sounds awful. dh is a lawyer but still a bit wary of ebay tbh and very proud of his feedback. There surely are bigger things to worry about in life, I just can't believe some people are so petty.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 30/03/2007 14:56

I think yours sounds a good plan, laughing.

I honestly can't be arsed with Ebay these days.

It seems full of really greedy petty buyers these days.

There are loads of stories on here recently.

laughingduck · 30/03/2007 15:01

thanks expat . I think I'm suffering Post traumatic Ebay stress disorder after this latest lot. It's taken about a week for it to all be sent etc and now this. Just been a disaster from start to finish. Don't even get me started on Paypal.

I sell in car boot sales. Cash. And then the people go away.

vimfuego · 30/03/2007 15:11

Why would your buyer make up something like that? If it was damaged you have to refund and pay all postage. This is what you would be entitled to as a buyer. Don't sweat it and move on to the next deal. Happens.

laughingduck · 30/03/2007 15:21

I have no idea. The point is that I did check it before and it was fine. It may have come undone in the post but I doubt it. I agree FWIW and as I have said we are offering a refund once the item is returned. I know these thing happen but why would she threaten us with a neg if that is the case?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 30/03/2007 15:28

'Why would your buyer make up something like that?'

Because they decided they don't like the item and want their money back is why.

Ever worked in retail?

You'd be amazed what load of tripe people will make up.

vimfuego · 31/03/2007 22:22

Fair enough.

Mirage · 01/04/2007 19:43

Ha,I just had someone leave me my 1st neutral feedback & am cross.I said the item measured approx 7cm,she has put in feedback that it is not as described as it measures 6cm (it is a tiepin ).I have written her a sickly sweet email saying how sorry I am that she isn't happy & does she want a refund?I bet she doesn't as it was only about £3 & she knows it was a bargain.I haven't left her any feedback yet-am considering what to say.

Rubybees · 01/04/2007 20:28

I've been on ebay for 5 years now and 100% feedback, one of my recent feedback 'item not as good as I thought but as described'

what!!! But left positive feedback dime bar, what do they expect eh!!

sixlostmonkeys · 01/04/2007 20:50

Mirage - I would be tempted to respond to the neutral (you know, the line underneath) with something like - I would have been happy to refund if you had contacted me.
This will make you sound a more than reasonable seller and anyone looking at the item she refers to will see that you used the word 'approx'

sixlostmonkeys · 01/04/2007 20:57

how about this guy for feedback? here

3easterbunniesandnomore · 01/04/2007 21:00

mirage, is tat e-bayer a new E-bayer...if so, that could explain it, and depending on her feedback to your E-mail, you could say something along the lines new E-bayer...what ya expect...seen that in some neutral ones

nikkie · 01/04/2007 21:46

sixmonkeys -weird bloke! and whats with all the beckys?

kks · 01/04/2007 22:00

It shouldn't matter, it was only a fiver the moaning cow. She would have paid alot more then that if she had bought them new!

charlottegeorgiaolivermums · 01/04/2007 22:06

You should get item back before you issue refund - then only refund her bid not the postal cost as you have already paid for this. No item returned then no refund make sure you email via eBay and if and when she opens a dispute you can put that you have not yet received the refund and request proof of delivery.
Once received if the damage was caused by her then take it further if damaged via post man than claim from Royal mail - repair and re-list she doesn't deserve your items.

Mirage · 04/04/2007 20:29

Thanks for the advice.Have responded'I was not aware of a problem as buyer had not contacted me.Have offered a refund.'Pretty reasonable wouldn't you say?

She isn't new & she hasn't responded at all to my email.I haven't left her any feedback yet as I'm not sure what to put, apart from 'poor communication'

What with my nappies being pulled & this,I'm a bit disillusioned with Ebay ATM.
