A quick 'Best Offer' query

I made a best offer on an item (approx 10% below the listing price - item was around £150). Rather than decline or make a counter-offer, the seller just let the offer expire. It's slightly put me off making a second offer or buying the item at full price as it suggests less-than-great communication to me, but am I overthinking that? It's just that I almost always get a counter-offer if my first offer isn't accepted, it seems strange just to let an offer expire.

Some people just don't check their listings / notifications, I wouldn't worry about it.
Also sometimes eBay puts a best offer as a default on some listings, when the seller doesn't even realise it's on or understand how it works.

I'd say you are overthinking it, yes Smile
Pay the full price if you think the item, or if you don't just leave it.

Thank you; I thought I might be over-analysing! The seller has very good feedback, so I think I will just buy at full price - the item is probably worth it, I just always feel I might as well make a slightly lower offer if the seller has 'best offer' on. I didn't realise it was something that could be added as an unwanted default for sellers, so that's worth knowing for the future.

I think eBay will be automatically including 'make an offer' on all Buy it Now listings shortly.

That means it will be time to increase our prices to allow for the reduction I suppose. None of my items with best offer have ever had an offer...

I have been selling on Ebay since 2002 and never bothered about the Best Offer as I kept my fees to the minimum, realised it became free and tried it, if anything it put people off.

I have had people message with offers which are reasonable and I have accepted them. I am there to sell stuff after all.

As a buyer it puts me off if I make an offer and there is no response, I don't make silly, low offers, and sometimes there is a counter offer which is something like 20p off the price. If people don't want to sell for a lower price I don't see the point. If I make an offer and it is ignored I buy elsewhere, regardless of the price because it makes me think I am dealing with someone who doesn't really understand the basics of selling or can't be bothered with it.

Last time I looked there was a limit to the number of offers on one item so not a lot of haggling unless you use more than one account.

sometimes I can't make up my mind about an offer so don't reply. Sorry, I'm just Jo Blow selling my old stuff, not a pro seller who has worked out the margins & risk-benefit of when to sell & when to wait for a better offer.
