Buyer can't pay on eBay and wants my PayPal address?

I've sold an item (just a dress for £14) and the buyer has contacted me to say she's unable to pay via eBay and has asked for my direct PayPal address

Googling this looks like a scam as the seller then receives an official looking email saying funds have been deposited (even though that haven't) and to ship the item. However, if I just check the PayPal balance surely I'd know that it's been paid and this should be safe?

Has anyone come across this before?

I think if it's sent as a gift then she has nothing to claim against you for as a gift is a gift not payment for goods

She can't leave any feedback coz according to eBay she hasn't bought it. She's only paid through PayPal. Has the item now ended? Have you marked it as paid? And no! Don't message her telling her to pay you properly as goods and services. Don't refund her. Because she's paid you as friends & family it's like a gift. She's gave you money, you can do what you want with the item as if she doesn't receive it she wouldn't have a leg to stand on now anyway and wouldn't be able to claim anything. She sounds a bit dim with how eBay n paypal works - protection wise.
So for these reasons I thinks it's legit! So I'd go ahead.
Besides if someone pays you for goods & services you get a fee, and you wouldn't want that would you? Friends & family is no fee for you.
Even tho I've said you can do whatever with the item I would obviously say that you send it her, she's trusting you. I didn't get the impression you was gunna do one with it, and not send it btw.

ImaLannister · 13/06/2017 22:23

Don't mark it as paid on eBay, coz according to them you haven't sold it. You will save yourself a little 10% fee on it. Just don't re list it again.

Lannister I don't feel comfortable just taking her money and not sending an item, definitely not

She won the auction and paid the money via PayPal as a gift. I have emailed her saying I have refunded it and to pay it properly otherwise I will relist. Thank you for all the advice on this thread

Probably she owes ebay money and has de-linked her PayPal account to stop them just taking the money, and she can't relink because then the money she tries to send will get taken by eBay rather than sent to you.

ImaLannister · 14/06/2017 00:15

Yeah, as I said I didn't get the impression you were not gunna send it. I knew you was going to send it, I was just giving you an example what is possible if someone pays via gift friends & family. She should have just paid through eBay, that way she's protecting herself. Coz not everyone is as good & genuine as you and I.
You've messaged her now, n told her to pay as goods & services. Ok. It's done, so just send it now n get it done with.
But you see all the hassle this causes for yourself? Next time say no.

I had an item marked as cancelled by the seller before I could pay for it and I can still leave feedback so be careful.
