Help - Buyer claiming item faulty, when I am certain it isn't

I recently sold an item at well below value to a buyer who then asked me to deliver it to an unregistered address.

Eventually, after some correspondence I shipped to the registered address and heard nothing more for two weeks.

Now the buyer is claiming the item is faulty and asking to return it.

I am certain there is no fault, but cannot decide what to do.

Does anyone have any experience of this situation? What woukd you do?

I don't have personal experience with this, but apparently Ebay's policy of always siding with the buyer has encouraged scammers to order items, then claim they are faulty (or were never received). Ebay seems to routinely ignore any evidence submitted by vendors. I'd review the buyer's ratings (read the comments, as sellers can't submit a negative rating) to see if they've done this before. Then collect all your evidence and keep pestering Ebay. They're likely to just refund the buyer and close the case if you let then. Good luck!

If the buyer has or does open a return request on the basis that the item is faulty / not as described you have no choice but to accept it and pay for the return postage I'm afraid.

If you refuse then eBay will just enforce it anyway and you will receive a defect on your account.

However do you think it's just a case of the buyer using the item incorrectly? If so have you communicated with them to offer guidance?

Also OP if anyone asks you to send to another address, that's not registered on eBay, don't send it to them full stop. That always rings alarm bells for me. Cancel the sale, if they won't cancel stating there is an issue with address. Because it's always dodgy stuff like that. I don't tolerate or put up with any of it.

Thank you all for the advice.

I have decided to accept the return, but have been told by the buyer that she cannot return it for another week.

It will be interesting to see what the condition of the item is when it arrives back. I have dozens of date stamped photos of the item both before and during packing and will report to EBay if I think that I have been scammed in any way.

Take photos of you opening it. I've been scammed in this way where they sent a broken item back to me and kept mine leaving me 850 out of pocket. Fortunately I appealed as I had the serial number of the item and could prove it wasn't what I had sent to them. I did end up getting my money back but it was a mither...

How convenient for her, can't return it for another week. She's making you wait until she's used it etc probably. Cheeky Cow.

What was it if you don't mind me asking OP? In general what was it..clothing, electrical item etc
