Hoping someone can help me with this (sorry if this is long).

Have just had an email from someone who bought nappies from me in February. They weren't a good fit on her son so she tried to re-sell them on ebay. Her listing was removed as against rules to sell used nappies on ebay (apparently).

She has said that she has been in dispute with ebay as she bought them on there as used. They have apparently told her to ask me for a refund as I shouldn't have sold them in the first place?!?!?

She has put in email: "What they have now said is to get in contact with yourselves requesting a refund before opening a dispute as item should not have been listed and as a seller it was your responsablity to check rulings."

Should I just refund? How bad would a dispute be if it started against me?! It doesn't specify in rules that used nappies can't be sold...

Any advice welcome, thanks...

ebay have since changed the rules on listings and state that nappies cant be sold. send her in the nappy lady website direction and tell her to sell them on there.

there is a big petition doing the rounds.

pinkranger · 13/03/2007 21:27

can you contact ebay yourself to find out.

Piffle · 13/03/2007 21:28

I thought it was only adult "sexual" overtones nappies that had been banned

Piffle · 13/03/2007 21:28

The rules changed after you sold them anyway
Not your problem tbh

asur · 13/03/2007 21:29

i've searched the rules and can't find anything saying that nappies can't be sold although I have now seen a few threads on here about it... Have they actually put it in their rules? If so, when did it change? obviously if it changed after I sold them, then it's technically not my problem....

cross-posted Piffle. Thanks

no dont give her a refund! the rules have changed since you sold them, if you were in the wrong ebay would have removed them and not let you sell them

LadyOfTheFlowers · 13/03/2007 21:33

what sort are they?
i may wanna buy 'em if you do refund her!

prufrock · 13/03/2007 21:34

Don't give her a refund on principle as she used the word "YOURSELVES"

misdee · 13/03/2007 21:35

lol.

tell to take a running jump!

goingfor3 · 13/03/2007 21:35

As the rules changed after she bought them it's her problem not yours.

asur · 13/03/2007 21:36

thanks for advice, felt a bit mean not refunding but glad I'm not alone in thinking it isn't my problem.

Ladyoftheflowers - they were Happy Nappys, AIOs. I wasn't very fond of them - not as absorbant as DS needs (VERY heavy wetter!)

Ignore it - new rules, her fault. Send her to nappy lady classifieds

mytwopenceworth · 13/03/2007 21:36

i would say something like

i am sorry to learn that you are not allowed to resell. however, at the time of my auction, no such restrictions were in place and i acted in good faith and within the rules as they were at the time. i do not accept that ebay has the right to apply new rules retrospectively and would challenge any attempt to open a dispute under such circumstances.

or something better worded but you get my drift!

expatinscotland · 13/03/2007 21:38

WTF is w/all these greedy bints wanting refunds because things went tits up?

This is why I stopped using Ebay and NEVER went back.

I wouldn't give her FA. If it didn't say in the rules, then tough tatties for her.

A pal of mine still sells on Ebay and lists everything as 'sold as is, NO returns, NO refunds. bid carefully.'

kid · 13/03/2007 21:42

I wouldn't give a refund either.
Out of interest, how much is the refund she is after?

expatinscotland · 13/03/2007 21:43

Probably a fiver and she wants the seller to pay postage, too, kid.

asur · 13/03/2007 21:47

mytwopenceworth - I stole a bit of what you suggested, hope you don't charge me for it!

The total refund would be £24 or £28.50 if she wanted postage too...

I'm pretty tempted to stop using ebay myself, expat. Mainly use it for nappies so I'll just use Nappy Lady instead...

What will they ban next?!?!

I got screwed over by a rogue buyer who then used PayPal to wrangle her money back.

I had to tell PayPal I was going to the Ombudsman before they gave me back my money.

After that, I thought, 'This is more trouble than it is worth' and stopped using it for good.

I go to a car boot sale every now and again.

All cash, all over in a couple of hours, and the buyer goes away for good.

tinkerbellhadpiles · 13/03/2007 21:52

eBay just generally hacks me off. But that's bloody ridiculous.
It's not your fault though, so don't entertain the discussion. I'd just maintain studious silence. The rules in place when you sold them allowed you to do so.

A few years back they introduced a rule to prevent people selling body parts online, I hear no-one got a refund on those kidneys!!!! Used bladder anyone?

mytwopenceworth · 13/03/2007 22:02

which bit? [proud little smilie face]

LadyOfTheFlowers · 14/03/2007 11:24

my boy's a heavy wetterto and i am not keen on aio's either.
nevermind!
