Have just sold my first item on ebay and need urgent etiquette help!

Do I contact the buyer, or do I wait for the buyer to contact me?

Thanks

Send them an invoice straight away then wait for them to pay. Well done!

How do I send an invoice? Aaargh. I know I should have thought of this before! And I have loads more items ending tonight as well...

There should just be a button to click on - either send invoice or contact buyer or something like that.
They might just pay you straight away if you've got paypal so it's worth checking first thing tomorrow.

FrannyandZooey · 04/03/2007 20:24

It's ok, frogs, you don't need to contact them immediately, you have 72 hours to do this (although obviously the sooner the better)

They may contact you first if they are quick off the mark. Do you accept paypal? If so most people will just pay without prompting. eBay automatically email the Buyer anyway, with payment instructions but you may need to prompt or remind them with your own separate email or invoice.

Sorry - I didn't mean to panic you and make it sound like you had to do it RIGHT NOW!

FrannyandZooey · 04/03/2007 20:30

Scootergirl I was responding to the panicky title rather than your advice - I think you were spot on

frogs · 04/03/2007 20:42

thanks guys!

Feeling slightly calmer. Have a backlog of about 15 items due to finish in the next couple of hours. Good to know I don't have to act RIGHT NOW!!!

So should I send an invoice, or should I let ebay do it for me? I'm not doing paypal, so thought it's probably best to send them an invoice with a friendly note of my address and contact email. Presumably they then email me their address for mailing, or include a note when they send the payment.

Does this sound sensible? Don't want to get bad feedback by getting the etiquette wrong!

I'm so used to having to do things RIGHT NOW - whether it's get a drink for DD, find a cuddly toy or take her for a wee that it's my default state

frogs · 04/03/2007 20:51

Does my plan sound sensible? [slightly feeble but quizzical emoticon]

No, it sounds fine. You'll only get bad feedback if the stuff doesn't arrive or is rubbish - as long as you're friendly, fairly speedy and honest, you'll be ok

frogs · 04/03/2007 20:54

Thanks.

Give them clear instructions of what to do, if you want them to include their address with payment then tell them that. eBay buyers can be of very mixed intellectual ability. Be very clear and direct about what you want.

frogs · 04/03/2007 21:02

@ "mixed intellectual ability", franny. That sounds like the wry grin of experience...

It was the politest words I could find in the situation, really
