Broken goods...

Just looking for a bit of advice before I kick off...

Bought a glass bowl from ebay 2 weeks ago, paid £10 p&p. Paid the seller instantly via paypal. I emailed her after a week asking when she had posted the goods as I had not recieved them... she said that " it had been posted but to be paitent as it was xmas post now"

A few days later I stll hadnt receieved them so emailed her again, she said that she had been to post office and they had told her that she could only claim after 30 days?

Anyway a day after this she emailed to say that the bowl had been returned to her as the address label had come off.. and that she was annoyed about it as me as she had to pay postage again, but she had checked the bowl, repacked it and had posted it again...

Bowl arrived this morning... in about 800000000 pieces...it had one layer of bubble wrap around it, then put in a box, then another layer of bubble wrap round the box and the label on.. IMO not sufficient packing for a glass bowl.

Any opinons?

Am I entitled to my money back?

It sounds to me like she has wrapped it ok, i would be nice and email and say it has been broken (send her a pic if she wants proof) and hopefully you can come to a arrangement, i.e go halves each or something, as it isn't her fault it got broken to be fair.

I would think that you were definitely entitled to your money back - what a disaster! I recently sold a 5 arm crystal candelabra and I wrapped it in about 50 layers of bubble wrap, then secured it with screwed up newspaper so it was packed securely in its box. Have you emailed her to tell her yet?

Disagree with you Pucca - no way is that sufficient packing for a glass item.

actually, I don't think that 2 layers of bubblewrap are enough to stop a glass bowl being broken. Christmas time is notorious for things getting broken, as post office staff are under pressure and not as careful as they might be.

Someone who makes glass once told me that the best shaped box to send glasses in was a long thin cylinder, or a pyramid. This means that nothing can be stacked on top of it!

Agree would email her say wasnt sufficiently wrapped and is broken[also good idea to include picture if you can] Give her 48hrs to reply and if not then go via paypal for your money back.

Open a paypal dispute, you only have so long to do it, about 30 days i think!

The box is too big for the bowl so it has moved about. I just think it all sounds a little suspect that its taken 2 weeks for it to get here. Would the post office have sent it back to her because it was broken?

I have emailed her and said that it has arrived, in quite a few pieces and that I can send photos should they be required but I would appreciate her refunding my money at her earliest convenience?
