Have been looking at the Chloe bags for sale on ebay and, never having owned one before, I'm at a loss to know what to look for to guarantee authenticity. There seem to be so many for sale which makes me worry that a great many are fake. Anyone had any experience of this? Thanks

For this reason I would never buy a 'designer' handbag on ebay

The sellers of the mulberry bags seem to largely be private individuals and the photographs of the details are extensive. I have a mulberry bag so I can see it's for real IYSWIM.

Most of the Chloe sellers are shops which makes me worry.

I wouldn't buy a new designer bag off ebay - only ever second hand ones in used condition.
I bought a Mulberry Roxanne which looked incredibly authentic in the photos. When it came I thought that one part of the leather didn't have quite the right finish and was a bit suspicious. 2 days later one of the rivets fell off and I e-mailed the seller who refunded me immediately.
Am convinced it was a fake but it was so incredibly accurate in almost every detail (logos, swing tags, bag to keep it in) it was amazing.

I guess it seems unlikely that any individual would sell a bag without even using it so 'light' usage is the way to go.

Thanks

Take a look at this website:

www.profitcome.com

If this doesn't put you off buying a designer bag on eBay, nothing will! They sell fake dustbags, receipts, the works, even the little leaflets that come with the bags, and I'm sure that the vast bulk of eBay trade is in this type of thing.

I came across this website from a genuine listing for a Mulberry bag, the lady selling hers was so incensed by the fakes on the market that she drew attention to this site to warn people of the dangers.

The only way to buy a designer bag on eBay, and probably a lot of other designer goods, is to really check out people's feedback, see what else they're selling, and what they've sold previously, check out how honest and open their listing is...but at the end of the day, you'll never have a 100% guarantee, you'll only ever be able to come to a judgement as to whether you think you can trust them.think

I always look at what else they are selling and what they have sold in the past 30 days as well, if they are selling or have sold loads of 'designer' bags etc I avoid like the plague. My dh bought some Henri Lloyd trousers that seemed very genuine but they were fakes he got his money back but had to pay to send them back so ended up out of pocket.

i sold lots of designer bags on ebay. i sold old black blanciaga, black patent ferragamo, red suede prada,lv backpack, burberry, and lv weekender bag. they were all used by me. i had a few times my auction pulled by vero off ebay. but i fought back they were geniune, i had proof, receipt, card statements. i was addicted designer bag lady untill met dh, i sell them when im bored.unfortunately there are too many fakes, last xmas i bought chloe paddington, and it was fake and sold it back. if you want bag, you got to know what you want. not much help sorry

I think if they are used they are more likely to be genuine, hope that doesnt sound stupid but if someone is selling loads of brand new ones to me it just screams fakes. Where as someone selling loads of used designer bags just says someone with a handbag fettish like my mum!!

Thanks everyone....will sell my current bag to fund getting a new one I think.

Morning ladies. The general rule of thumb with designer goods, is - if it seems too good to be true, it probably is! NO-ONE is going to sell a current season bag for a £49.99 Buy It Now - just an example, I'm sure you catch my drift.

Previous advise all sensible - there ARE good sellers out there, but you have to be very, very careful. Also, if there's anything you are sure is 'snide' report it to ebay - they may not do anything, but the more reports they get, they more they're going to have to do something about it.

My husband goes on a soccer forum where the lads all ask for advice as to the authenticity of items they're considering - we could do that here?

I sell quite a bit of our stuff on ebay, (I'm nor a professional seller, I buy just as much!) and it makes me SOOOO mad that people are basically robbing - which is what it comes down to.

Happy to advise on all matters ebay
