How long do a wait for a buyer to arrange to collect?

I sold an item collection only last Wednesday. The buyer emailed the night the auction ended asking to collect the next day and pay in cash. I replied at 6am giving a couple of times but saying I can do most times given a few hours notice.
Nothing after 2 days so I asked if he still wanted it, said fine if not. A day later a got a reply saying he does but he's away business and Tuesday would be the earliest he can come. It's now Wednesday and I've not heard anything. What now? It's not a big item, I'm just fed of checking my messages.

open an unpaid case, and block him. Wait 4 days to close and then relist.

MyFirstName · 20/05/2015 16:46

Can I piggy back please. I sent an invoice, and a follow up email asking for cash on collection and to arrange collection. Heard nothing, then 4 days after that got a paypal payment - but still nothing about when they could collect.

Have sent a follow up email asking about arranging collection but heard nothing. So I have my payment but still have the bloody items clogging up my garage. What do I do now?? Can anyone advise please?

Cherryapple1 · 20/05/2015 18:49

refund the paypal and send a cancellation request for your fees back. Never take paypal if they are collecting the item.

MyFirstName · 20/05/2015 19:29

Thank you. Have refunded the paypal and sent him one final message - and after radio silence for days this has made him get back to me angling for him to send a courier. Bloody pain in the arse. I said no. Cash on collection or feel free to withdraw. I smell something unpleasant going on. Tis all for something less than a £10. And he called me "mate". Fuck off. I don't know you. You don't know me. Don't call me "mate".

And breathe....Grin

Cherryapple1 · 20/05/2015 19:57

you are right - never let a buyer arrange their own courier either.

MyFirstName · 20/05/2015 20:07

I just hope he withdraws to be honest. Just want to cancel the whole thing and take the sodding item down the dump now!

Treeceratops · 21/05/2015 16:13

Same here MyFirstName ! My buyer has now said he's coming on Saturday. I shouldn't have given him so long but I'm kind stupid like that.

Similar problem here.

Listing asked for cash on collection. Buyer messaged me straight after auction to say she will pay cash on collection. A day or so later she pays by Paypal. Angry I've refunded her and told her cash on collection. Have I been charged by Paypal? If so, how do i get that fee back?

Thought she could come and pick up a very large and heavy item on her own. I said I could help her but it would be better if she could bring someone. She can only come during the day and is away this weekend. From Tuesday we are both at work full time. Single mother who doesn't seem to realise that most of the population has to work full time. Starting to lose the will to live a bit....

Cherryapple1 · 22/05/2015 10:23

no you haven't been charged by paypal if you have refunds. Send the buyer a cancellation to get your eBay fees back.

And lots of single mothers realise people have to work.

bellathebluebell · 22/05/2015 20:10

I've refunded her via Paypal but when I go in to cancel the order in eBay the only option it gives me is to refund the buyer. Grrrrr...........

She hasn't responded and is now away for the weekend. DH is telling me to wait but it will be a week by the time she responds and tells me what she is doing.

Treeceratops · 25/05/2015 15:19

He collected on Friday morning after I gave him until 9am on Saturday. No feedback received though. Git.

Why is it some buyers are so bloody awkward and like you say don't realise that people actually work. Sometimes I have arranged collections and they turn up early, luckily I have been in but what's the point?
Also prompt collection is polite, some people just say oh so and so is collection for me I'll see when they are free, it just complicates things so much and I hate it when they drag their feet to collect esp if it's a big item I think it's just rude.

MyFirstName · 28/05/2015 08:33

I have finally given up on mine. He paid by paypal last week. Only communication. I refunded and said please get in touch or I will have to assume he does not want to collect. He finally got in touch and said, "Oh I a busy this week - I'll send a courier as not got time to come myself." I said no -next week collection fine - just tell me when. Then nothing, nada for over a week.

Sent him another message yesterday - please arrange collection time or I will have to cancel. Got some waffly story about a new job, I am going to send a courier. I said no. That I had already said no to courier. That it was to big to wrap. That I have cancelled.

Fucking twat. It was an item less than £10!

Best relist. Am hoping he doesn't kick off or raise a report-thing. Though not sure what else I could do tbh.

twistletonsmythe · 28/05/2015 08:35

You need to send a cancellation request first, then when it is closed you can relist.

MyFirstName · 28/05/2015 08:38

OK, thanks - do you know how long it takes to be "closed" or confirmed? I may offer the other bidder the item. I just want it gone tbh.

twistletonsmythe · 28/05/2015 09:18

if they ignore it closes in 7 days. If they accept or refuse then immediately. Don't do a second chance offer until it is closed either.

MyFirstName · 02/06/2015 20:11

So it was all confirmed as cancelled. I relisted. Auction still running and the tardy first buyer just called me (I had given him my no to try and get collection arranged) "I'm in the area, let's call it £20 and I'll come and get it". Er no. He was really, really horrible and patronising. I said I was just going to let the auction run and he said _ well I'll just win it and I'll come and collect it in a few days - so lets just cut out the middle man and I can pop round tonight.".

No! Felt rather threatened. I tried to block him from bidding but was too late - he had already bid £27. He then sent me an unpleasant message. I told him to leave me a lone. Further message - well just sell it to me then and I will leave you alone. Urghhhh.

Discussed with DH - we have just cancelled the whole auction and will sell on GumTree or something - feel threatened by him and don't want to risk putting it back on ebay in case the blocking thing doesn't work.

DH currently trying to work out how to block him on my phone too.

twistletonsmythe · 02/06/2015 20:14

Have you added him to your blocked bidder list?

Hobbes8 · 02/06/2015 20:20

I have the opposite problem. I've twice agreed a price to buy a sofa (two different sellers), confirmed that I can send a courier, but when I've asked them for their details for me to pay they've ignored me. If it's a scam it's a very odd one, as I'm trying to give them money and they won't take it!

twistletonsmythe · 02/06/2015 20:21

sellers worth their salt won't allow you to arrange a courier as it leaves them wide open to being scammed as opposed to them scamming you.

Hobbes8 · 02/06/2015 20:31

I get that they're at risk (except that I know they're not because I'm not a scammer!), but I have no other way of buying sofas unfortunately. I'm after something quite specific. I would understand if they said cash on collection only, but their listings say they're happy for a courier to be arranged.

I didn't win the auctions unfortunately, so I cant just pay them. One was a second chance offer via a message, and the other only had one sofa listed but two available, so I made an offer for both which she ignored, even thought we'd already agreed a price.

Anyway, I'm hijacking the thread. I just thought it was really weird to try and sell a sofa but not to let me pay!

MyFirstName · 02/06/2015 21:02

Have added to blocked bidder list and reported him to ebay as his texts have got a bit bolshy and threatening.

twistletonsmythe · 02/06/2015 21:21

you could also call 101 too. What a horrid buyer :(
