Selling used nappies on ebay?

I have noticed that there are lots of used nappies for sale on ebay these days, although the listing will only let you categorise them as new. The sellers just put 'USED' in the title and description.

Do you think this is running the risk of getting negative feedback, or is it just accepted that that is how you do it.

I have my lot to sell and an fed up of people on our local selling site saying they want them and then deciding not (without having seen them - they are in good nick!)

Ooh I'm not sure but am watching with interest as I have lots to sell too!

(As an aside, someone recently recommended advertising my reusable nappies on local baby sling facebook groups as opposed to general selling groups)

We do have a local FB selling group for general baby stuff, but I have often had people saying they want something, making arrangements and then dropping out and I just don't have time for it all...

I bought mine on eBay and was always clear from the description that they weren't new. As long as you have described their state accurately and put it in the title maybe then it's fine.

No1warnedme · 05/05/2015 14:30

I believe that eBay won't allow the sale of 'soiled' items - which technically reusables are, so stating 'used' just clarifies that they are not brand new. So yes, it's just a way of getting around eBay policy.

Cherryapple1 · 05/05/2015 14:32

not allowed which is why you can only select 'new' when listing in that category - and if you list them and they are reported then the auction will be ended. I would sell them elsewhere tbh.

I sold mine on ebay last week. The buyer would have got them on Saturday. Not had any feedback at all, but I find that happens a lot, so am assuming all is well. I made a fair bit of money on the too, so was pretty pleased.

trilbydoll · 05/05/2015 14:36

As long as the listing makes it clear, it's fine.

I have had one listing taken down, and no matter how I worded it, they kept catching me! In the end I left it a couple of weeks to fall off their system and then I think I wrote "has been worn x times" and finally sold them!

So yes, technically not allowed but everyone knows people sell used ones, you'd have to be really unlucky to get negative feedback.

Cherryapple1 · 05/05/2015 15:39

It isn't fine and eBay will end a listing if reported.

"it is just accepted how people do it."

I've sold used nappies on eBay without problem (being very clear in the description that they are used, of course).
Depending on the brand, you may find that there is a good buying and selling Facebook page. I used one for Tots Bots and another for Bumgenius. I found they sold for as much as they did on eBay and there are no fees to worry about. Also try cloth nappy tree website's classified pages.

ThedementedPenguin · 05/05/2015 20:46

Have you looked up the cloth nappy groups, I've just recently joined as I am thinking about starting. Things seem to sell really well on it.

margaritasbythesea · 05/05/2015 22:06

I may do. I think i am chickening out of ebay. I have a good long- standing rating and don't want to risk it. Any recommendations would be welcome and thanks for your replies.

Cloth nappy tree is good.

Bluecarrot · 07/05/2015 17:01

I use FB groups to sell and buy cloth nappies. Don't need to be local ones either, any in UK are good.
I like cloth bum mums

I’d just like to add to this, more of a rant really, that my listings have just been removed from Vinted and eBay for my nappies!
I can’t believe that they are classing them the same as used underpants! As long as they’re clean that’s the whole point of them so they keep getting passed on and reducing waste!
