Someone asking if I will wait for their payday?

Hello, I am an ebay novice but (a bit rashly) decided to stick my entire wardrobe on this week. It all closes tonight.

Someone has messaged me asking if they are successful, can they pay me on Friday when they get paid. Is there etiquette to deal with this? I don't mind waiting, I'm more concerned they'll stick in a high bid and not pay when Friday comes around either.

The item in question is only a fiver - shouldn't think it will sell for more than £8ish and the postage is £4.40. There are 17 watchers.

Thanks!

up to you - if they don't pay on Fri you can open an unpaid case then and get your fees back.

£4.40 is v expensive postage for clothing - why so much? You could send Hermes for £2.98 if under 1kg in weight plus tracking.

Thanks. I just followed another seller under 'see how others sold it'

Someone who can't find a spare £8 before Friday probably won't have it then, either. I'd tell them I can't have a policy of delayed payment.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

I think with postage that high your stars will soon be too low to sell. How heavy are they?

AddToBasket · 19/04/2015 21:04

Quite heavy. Leather shoes.

Tbh, I thought my postage was quite low as on most of my items it's just covered the post cost, never mind packing. I basically just clicked on 'see how others sold it' and followed the middle person!

If you post with Myhermes then the buyer can't see what you pay & is less likely to complain. If 1- 2 kg the MyHermes rate is £3.78 IF you can drop the boots off at a shop, else £3.98 if they collect. You MUST use the postage or courier service you've specified (can't change after anyone bids), and some people won't buy if they see MyHermes is the service.

At least they've asked. It is a bit annoying. Really they shouldn't have bid if they couldn't afford to pay immediately. And really to ask before they've even bought the shoes is a bit cheeky to say the least. Well I suppose you could give them the benefit of the doubt this once.

Someone else won (£6.50 bargain) Smile.

I now have to package and post 52 items...

Good luck with your packing. I think your P&P for shoes is fine. I would expect to pay that - 1st signed for is £4.40. If you have loads of parcels you could get a courier to collect though?

Don't forget to send anything over £20 signed for (I send all that way but depends what you charged I guess) If you are getting proof of postage certificates then print one off and fill it in before you go to PO as with 52 items you will be there ages otherwise and the PO staff will be not too happy. Just google proof of postage cert (bulk cert of posting). This is only for non signed for items and you do not have proof of delivery so more of a risk (if you haven't charged signed for then at least you will be covered up to £20 by RM)

Thanks, most went today but I'd given myself a two-day window for posting so more tomorrow. DH dropped off with Post staff and collected receipts a couple of hours later.
