eBay refunded - what happens to the item ?

I bought a pair of boots which were listed as new. There is wear to the soles so clearly they've been worn.

eBay have given me a full refund but there isn't request to send the item back.

They are no good for me, so should I donate to the charity shop ? Hold on in case there is a request to retun ?

They are currently cluttering up my hall Confused

Contact the seller: they should send the postage to you to return them if they want them back.

Cherryapple1 · 09/04/2015 14:08

no you don't need to return them. As eBay refunded you the seller doesn't take them back, as they still have their money.

Just charity shop them and get rid.

Ah that's interesting, so they sell something dodgy & they get to keep the money ? Do they get a strike against them ?

When someone opened an item not received dispute against me Ebay held the funds in my PayPal account and only released when the buyer confirmed item was received. Wouldn't it be the same in this case? I can't see eBay being out of pocket Wink

Cherryapple1 · 09/04/2015 18:45

No I don't think they get a strike.

Yes, eBay pay no fault refunds out of their own pocket in a not as described case. Not received is more straightforward and they do take the money from the seller. But with a not as described case with a no fault refund eBay pay out, buyer doesn't need to return and seller keeps the money.

Thanks cherryapple. Seems abit unfair but I guess that's ebay for you.

Oxfordblue · 09/04/2015 21:15

Thanks - not sure how it can be a no fault refund though when the boots have been worn !

Oh well.....at least I got my money back.

i sold my pram a couple of months ago and the buyer opened a "not as described" dispute. The funds from the transaction were frozen in my paypal account. I had various options to deal with the dispute; to deny the complaint, to negotiate a partial refund or a full refund including the return of the item. I was told that if i exercised none of the options and let the matter progress to Ebay making a decision, if they decided to issue a full refund, the buyer would keep the item and was under no compulsion to send it back.

There is no way that ebay will cover the cost of the refund and let the seller keep the proceeds of the sale. They will make a recovery.

The threat that if ebay decided to issue a full refund then the buyer gets to keep the item and get their money back, is the stick that ebay uses to beat sellers into capitulating to unreasonable buyers.

OP, i would do the ethical thing and offer to post back the item to the seller (at their expense of course).

Scotch - you are wrong. eBay do give no fault refunds, and the buyer is allowed to keep the item and the seller keeps the payment. It does happen.

Oxfordblue · 10/04/2015 18:10

Scotch - what happened in your case ?

In the past I've had refunds where ebay have emailed a return postage slip, so the item has been returned & I've received a refund.

I was going to post them back out of my own pocket, but then the seller got a bit arsey so I opened a return item dispute.

Echoing what a few others have said, eBay have issued a 'no fault refund'.

You do not have to return the item, the refund has come directly from eBay, your seller has kept their money.

Scotch, there is every way eBay cover the refund and they have been doing it for the last two years in certain cases. I'm afraid you are wrong as cherry states.

Oxford, the boots are yours to do with as you please.
