Would you report this buyer?

Had a large and heavy item for sale on eBay for collection only. I specified in the title and in the description it was collection only.
The buyer that won the auction contacted me immediately after winning and asked if they pay for postage, can I post it?
I'm unable to post it and frankly, I don't want to. I replied and said no, the item is collection only. The buyer replied and reiterated that they were willing to pay the postage. I responded and said no, it was collection only.
The buyer replied and said I have to cancel the sale then.
I have cancelled the sale and relisted the item but would you report the buyer? They were obviously aware that it was collection only and were trying their luck. I think it's taking the piss tbh. Wwyd?

What could you report them for though?

blardyfeck · 05/04/2015 22:14

Hmm good question. To be honest I was just annoyed that they bid on something that was collection only with no intention of picking it up. They live the other end of the country & thought I would relent & agree to post it. Never mind, I'll ignore & move on.

Keep copies of their messages in case they give you bad feedback; watch your performance metrics make sure they don't knock you down on stars. Then you would get to report them.

Op could open an unpaid item case....... But is it really worth the time / effort? Sometimes it's easier just to cancel the transaction as you can resist straight away.

Cherryapple1 · 05/04/2015 22:49

You must never let a buyer arrange a courier, and you can't do an unpaid case after you have done a cancellation. You can't report a buyer for non performance, only a seller.

nancy75 · 05/04/2015 22:52

Why shouldn't you let a buyer arrange a courier? I am going to be selling furniture soon so this might be a problem?

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 05/04/2015 23:02

It can be ok if you have an honest buyer (I have been that honest buyer & it worked out fine)

But there is scope for a dishonest buyer to say item never arrived or was damaged.

Fwiw, with my purchase, I paid seller by BACS rather than paypal, which I think gave her more security? & delivery was arranged via anyvan rather than with a national courier company.

Cherryapple1 · 05/04/2015 23:15

because they can file not received, or claim item is damaged and you can't claim for the loss. Cash on collection only, never paypal.

cherryapple1, you can report a buyer for various reasons, you just can't leave them negative / neutral feedback.

blardyfeck · 08/04/2015 10:14

Thanks for all the advice

You can report for asking for something that was not offered in the description.

I personally would not agree to a courier on a collection item, too many things can go wrong. I prefer to get a lower price and less trouble. If it is not too far away I will sometimes offer to deliver for the cost of petrol, as long as it will fit in the car.
