Buyer claims item colour not as described, wants partial refund - WWYD?

I'm relatively new to ebay so don't know what the accepted etiquette is on this one and would appreciate any advice.

I sold a baby sling at auction last week. The listing included 4 photos and a description of the colour, and the item was listed as "no returns accepted". Buyer has received the item by post but says they think the colour is a different shade to the photos and description - along the lines of buyer claiming item is "burgundy" while my description said "bright red" (not the actual colours but the difference is comparable).

Buyer has said they will be keeping and using the item but wants a partial refund. I don't particularly want to give a partial refund because I don't agree with the buyer's description of the colour, nor do I think my description and photos were misleading, but I don't want negative feedback or a Paypal dispute either. WWYD?

"no returns accepted" is a distraction, ignore that.

I think they're trying it on and I'd offer them a refund once they've returned the item to you. This risks them giving you negative feedback and opening a case but the alternative is effectively to give them exactly what they demand.

Sorry, I also meant to say that the shade is also a distraction. You can argue about that till the cows come home but if they dont' agree you'll lose on this.

the answer is no to partial refund - return for a full refund or nothing. Buyer's remorse means they want to keep it but expect a discount - erm nope. Partial refund is never advised or recommended.

And partial refund doesn't mean they won't neg.

Thanks, that's really helpful. I'm certainly not interested in getting into a slanging match about colour shades. I'll give buyer a take-it-or-leave-it offer of return for full refund.

Good for you - that is all that eBay would offer her. And if she does neg, leave a calm follow up. It is only a red dot on a website and nothing you should be blackmailed over if that makes sense.

Also, don't offer to pay for return post, even if they ask. It could end up with ebay forcing it but wait to see if that happens.

I had similar when I sold dd's baby clothes.
A pair of brand new leggings (among other things) that buyer said had 'clearly been worn' they had the label on ffs

They asked for partial refund. I said 'no you can return for full refund once I receive them'
They got uppity and said I needed to arrange a courier and pay for it as she shouldn't be put out by my dishonesty.
I said no. If she didn't agree with my listing then she could return or keep.
She instantly opened a case asking eBay to force me to pay the return postage.
Ebay said she could return them for a full refund if she wanted but she would have to pay postage.

never heard from her again
No feedback, no return.

Don't give partial refund. Let them return the item at their own cost if they don't like it and resell. It's a risk you take for a negative feedback but you can always try to get that removed afterwards.
