Foreign buyer winning even though I said no to international buyers

I sold a valuable handbag to someone registered in the US and living in Estonia. I put SORRY NO INTERNATIONAL BUYERS in the listing but the cow completely disregarded this and bid without a warning or even asking for a postage quote.
There was a lot of interest and bidding on the bag so I'm furious that this is happening. She hasn't paid either.
I sent her a message saying she shouldn't have bid but now that she has she can either accept the postage by international tracked mail, full responsibility if it gets lost and understanding it's non returnable even if she thinks it's been misrepresented (which is not of course but it's just one of the reasons why I wouldn't send something used and valuable overseas) or I can cancel the purchase. I sent her an invoice with the postage price. She hasn't paid and hasn't replied Angry
What do I do?

I was auto enrolled into the Global Shipping Programme by Ebay. Could that be why? I haven't sold anything since but I think you ship to a UK address and they ship it on for you at no further cost to you.

GuendalinaCatEyes · 08/03/2015 22:16

No i don't think so. I had a setting that blocked people from counties I don't ship to from bidding so I don't know how this has happened.
I hadn't sold on eBay for a long time.
Every time it gets worse.

As far as I know there's no such thing as proper trackable mail to Estonia that EBay will accept as proof.

You mustn't send it, it will be dodgy and she will do a chargeback and get her money back.

GuendalinaCatEyes · 08/03/2015 22:23

That's really bad isn't it? I need to cancel the bid and offer it to the second highest bidder or relist.
Arghhh!

Hold on! I had this but when I looked Amazon had me ship it to a UK address (one of their depots) at the usual cost for UK and they shipped it onwards. It was easy and I had not agreed to overseas either.

Have a look at the buyer's address to see.

travailtotravel · 08/03/2015 22:30

If she hasntbpaid within a certain timeframe you can legitimately cancel ...

GuendalinaCatEyes · 08/03/2015 22:48

The shipping address is definitely in Estonia.

Were you account preferences set to restrict bidding to UK buyers only?. If so there will have been some sort of technical problem which allowed your buyers bid to slip through, which may mean that you can justifiably cancel her purchase. I'm not sure that your mention of no international buyers in your listing will be considered a good enough to reason, although I may well be wrong about this.

If you are entered into the global shipping programme there shouldn't be a major problem in posting out to your buyer as you send it to a UK address and Ebay does the rest. It may be that your buyer doesn't understand why you've sent her the message that you have about posting it international tracked mail and has decided that she now doesn't want to buy.

My advice would be to contact ebay and ask what you should do.

GuendalinaCatEyes · 08/03/2015 23:14

I'll say this again: I'm not enrolled in the global shipping program and the buyer's address is not in the UK
There's no justification really for bidding on an item that says no to international buyers in the listing and who "ships to:" only lists the UK. She didn't even enquire how much it would cost so she was clearly in the wrong IMO

I agree with you OP - I would think therefore you are quite within your rights just to cancel.

There has obviously been a technical fault somewhere because this buyer's bid shouldn't have got through your settings.

I sell lots, but don't know enough about what happens if you cancel a bid. Does it reflect on you in anyway? In your case, it shouldn't as your settings were properly set to prevent buyers from outside the UK. That's why I suggested you contacted ebay for advice.

This has happened to me - i went to send invoice and it said something about eBay global shipping and then gave me a United Kingdom address. Im not sure what to do and just posted a similar question

currentnameinuse · 11/03/2015 16:02

are you sure your settings are correct - because if they are then a foreign buyer will not be able to bid. Just writing it in your listing is not sufficien

Just send a cancellation request and hope she doesn't refuse it.

nooyearnooname · 11/03/2015 16:05

This happened to me a few months ago....somewhere on eBay you can cancel the sale so you don't pay the fees and this is one of the specific reasons you can select for doing so. I don't think the "buyer" had to agree to it.
