Best offer what to do

Somehow I've managed to list this as an option on a BIN item I have listed for 30. I've been offered a fiver for it, saying sorry it's low but I have a child on the way. Am I ok to decline the offer?

yes of course you are ok to decline it. You can remove the best offer option if you want to. And you don't need to tell any buyers your personal circumstances - none of their business is it.

If you would accept less you can counteroffer to indicate the sort of money you're after.

Say you have something on at £10, cheecky offer of £5, counter offer £9, they might accept or counter offer or decline.

They/ You get three attempts at offer/ counter offer.

If you've got no outstanding offers i.e. You decline your offer you can edit your listings and turn off the best offer feature.

I find about 50% of my BIN/ best offer stuff sells at the BIN price anyway.

Thanks for the advice. I've managed to set it now to automatically decline anything below a certain level. I'm not sure why he needed to justify his low offer by saying he has a child on the way - after all I only eBay to make a bit of pocket money as I'm a SAHM to three small children myself! It didn't come across well.

Anyway, I will keep re-listing if it doesn't sell this time round. Stuff seems to go eventually. I suppose you just need the right person at the right time.

Thanks for your help.

I'm always wary of that kind of excuse, I usually say how lovely, we have three, that'll be £75 please..or whatever.

He's going for the sympathy vote and hoping you would sell at a rock bottom price.
He knew he was being cheeky but its not unusual for buyers to want items for next to nothing. Sometimes it "is" for personal use but a lot of the time it is for resale and the lower they can buy an item the more profit they make.

I had this on a highly collectable item Which was worth about £100 the offers were ridiculous even though i didn't have best offer listed. Most of them were business sellers of the same kind items looking to make a profit. I didn't sell in the end.

Always stick to your guns!
