MyHermes won't deliver - who else does online proof of postage?

Normally use myhermes as I can prove I've posted and use their tracking for PayPal but they don't have a driver in this area I need to post to so who can I use? Is there a Royal Mail service?

have you checked they have any drop off points in your area? It's usually a newsagent, small shop etc

glammanana · 01/03/2015 13:58

Thats what I use Gatekeeper we have the choice of two shops where the pick-ups are dropped off then delivered to their sorting hub, usually about 30p cheaper on the post as well Smile

I get the impression the OP is talking about there being no Hermes service at the destination.

For Royal Mail OP you need a signed-for service assuming you're not sending a very expensive item (which would best be sent using a tracked service). Proof of posting only is an invitation to be ripped off and will be ignored by ebay or Paypal.

I'm assuming you're talking about delivery to a UK address.

Try Collect+ instead?

Yes nauticant, I need to send and myhermes won't deliver to this particular area. Sorry, should have been clearer in the op. So do Royal Mail do a postage that if the sender says it's not been delivered I can prove I've sent? Similar to myhermes? I just want to be covered for PayPal.

you are only covered if RM obtain a signature - so no, seeing as I find at least half of the time posties don't bother getting a recipient to sign, you are not guaranteed to have proof of delivery.

If you go through the link above you'll find that there's an option "Only show me services with delivery confirmation (optional)". The option for delivery confirmation is available at the Post Office when you're sending off a parcel. Just make sure you ask for it.

If the item is delivered, confirmation of this should then be available on the Royal Mail website. This will protect you from buyers claiming it hasn't been received.

Although some people don't like Royal Mail because they don't always insist on signature/delivery confirmation sometimes isn't provided, there are risks with all delivery services. I try not to think about how many of my items sent by Hermes have been left outside buyers' houses/flats.

nauticant · 01/03/2015 16:26

I believe a signature is only necessary for high cost items. As I understand things, you are protected if online confirmation of delivery is available.

I don't find Royal Mail to be less reliable than Hermes. And I've found Hermes to be a shocking nightmare when they've messed up and you have to contact their Customer Services compared to the Royal Mail.

UPS does a point to point delivery, sweet shop to launderette etc. And it works well with notifications of pick up and drop off. Good price too.

Also, it depends on the value of the item. If it's less than £20 one option is to get proof of posting and then if the buyer rips you off or if the item does genuinely go missing, you can refund the buyer and claim against Royal Mail.

I'm not so keen on this though because some dishonest buyers will be more inclined to deny delivery if it looks like it'll be easy to get away with.
