someone's wanting a figure right now before they pay me!
They want a dress sent on Monday for next day delivery.
have cut and paste this from Royal Mail. I don't use couriers and don't have time to sort one out, they will pay by RM

Does anyone know roughly what an average dress would be in weight? it's not heavy nor lightweight really. (adults dress size 22 knee length to give idea). I have no way of weighing it! They won't pay me until I tell them what the postage is...

The weight doesn't matter anymore, it's the size. A small parcel
With second class recorded delivery is £3.90 Smile

I send a dress every week by this method

alltoomuchrightnow · 28/02/2015 18:37

i can't send it Signed for for £3.90 as that's second class and only protects it up to £20. Dress is selling for £35 so it needs more cover
Special Delivery goes by weight

Special Delivery cost £7.15 if under 500g in weight, £8.45 if 500g to 1kg. Those are if it is under £50 in value.

alltoomuchrightnow · 28/02/2015 18:41

hmmm thanks Auburn. Damn I have no way of telling.. i don't want to be out of pocket paying extra postage myself. would an average unlined dress be under 500g do you reckon.. i just can't think in terms of weight plus i have slight numbers dyslexia so this really does my head in!

Signed for second class covers up to £50

It's the proof of posting receipt that only covers £20

Have you or a neighbour not got kitchen scales? What sort of dress is it, heavy or light fabric?

Auburnsparkle · 28/02/2015 18:49

and why would you pay half the post yourself? You should charge her what it costs.

imsorryiasked · 28/02/2015 18:51

Have you got kitchen scales you could use? Or a friendly corner shop?
Failing that charge them 10 and say you will refund any difference over 1or

alltoomuchrightnow · 28/02/2015 18:53

no cos it's got to go on monday . and i don't have scales. so annoying she wants it so quick lol. i can't be wasting petrol will have to guess it. the post office is the corner shop and its a 12 mile round trip so i cant be to ing and fro ing. thanks for the advice. have agreed we pay half each of the 7.15 and if its more she'll have to owe me the difference

I don't understand why you are paying half the postage?

lostmymarblesbutfoundthewine · 01/03/2015 11:19

go for the 8.45 sd. you can always give money back if its less. better than being out of pocket.

Just hope she's in to sign for it

loudarts · 01/03/2015 11:26

If she wants it next day delivery, she should pay the cost of next day delivery. You shouldn't have to pay half the postage

addictedtosugar · 01/03/2015 11:35

My size 14 jersey shift dress weighs 350g.
Don't forget your going to have wrapping on top of that. I think 500g might be cutting it fine, unless its a lightweight dress.
