"Here's how we protected your selling account" emails- what do they actually mean?

I have had a couple of such emails in the last few months and they state ebay has protected my selling account, this time they have "Removed 1 transaction defect(s) from your seller dashboard". But I wasn't even aware of there being a defect in the first place. The one before was in a similar manner of them having done something to protect my dashboard, but again, I had no idea that there had been an issue in the first place as I didn't have any emails or anything telling me that I did.

If anyone knows or has dealt with these emails, some explanation would be fantastic!

I was going to start a post about this too. I got message saying they prevented a money back guarantee from being opened too early. I have no idea - it says see seller dashboard but that didn't explain anything.

Yes! That's the one I had too!. And then there was no refund request or anything. Perhaps someone can shed some light on this for us.

I've just been reading a similar email from them, too!!

loudarts · 06/02/2015 06:53

I had one too, no idea what it means though.

I laughed at mine. They didn't protect me, they let a buyer send me repeated abusive and threatening emails through their system and refunded him despite agreeing with me that he was clearly out to make trouble deliberately and my providing evidence (photographic) that the goods I had sent were exactly as promised. He started abusing me a couple of hours after I paid and continued despite my sending the goods faster and by a more expensive postal service than stated in the listing and also at a time when I couldn't have sent the item yet as it was a Sunday and the post office was shut. Ebay's seller protection policies do t mean a thing because they will always side with the buyer regardless of prof or circumstances. I am considering taking eBay and my buyer to court because of my experiences.

lljkk · 06/02/2015 10:10

there was a MNer (sixlostmonkeys?) who was taken to court by a buyer and lost, it was horrible to read about. :(

Ebay never tells you about defects, you're supposed to monitor for them yourself. This is one thing they've been flamed about, not making it obvious to sellers that their accounts could be at risk.

Ebay discussion boards are full of very angry sellers, plus there are sites like ebaysucks.com listing bad buyers (harder to find now on Ebay).

I guess the emails are Ebay counter-offensive to try to keep sellers. Volume of sales and total number of sellers are down, I'm convinced. I'm not sure what Ebay wants. Most small sellers think Ebay just wants to remould itself after Amazon and lose its niche for quirky unique stuff. Maybe Ebay is trying to counter that impression.

I had one Op and like yourself not a clue what it was about as have not even sold anything for 6 months have no disputes or negative feedback and not been contacted by and buyers etc.... Very odd

Is it when they remove low star ratings you have received?

dillite · 06/02/2015 11:48

I've no idea Auburn. Don't even know how Ican see whether I have a low star rating or not. My performance is above average so I guess that's good? It's not like you can see if or when you get low stars as it only shows you percentage.

Ebay are going bloody crazy. I don't even think that private, occassional sellers should be rated and graded in the same way as business'(plural sp?).

Probably me, that's horrible. You should take them to court but then there's no guarantee that you will win.

Well I wonder if they are going to protect me from any defects that I may get from a seller who has messaged me to-day saying the leather coat i sent her on Tuesday and she received to-day was not up to the standard she expected !!! Put it on BIN for £19.99 free P&P and she offered £13.50 (still with free P&P) so I hummed and hared and decided to accept offer just to get rid really and just had message to say it is worn down the front edges,it was stated that it had been used well but in excellent condition no marks/rips been weather-proofed etc she said it looks untidy down the front but I can assure you it doesn't I value my 100% discription far too much and in reality she has paid £9.00 when I take off the postage,so now I have to refund her and wait for it to come back, can anyone tell me if I have to pay for return postage (I think I do) and do I gift her this amount on top of the original payment into pay-pal,so not a very good week for me.

Auburnsparkle · 06/02/2015 15:48

don't refund her until it is received back.

ihave2naughtydogs · 06/02/2015 15:57

Ebay have prevented 3 money back guarantees for me. very confused, I have had no complaints Confused

dillite · 06/02/2015 16:09

Funnily enough I ordered something off ebay, the seller sent me the item only the small version of it. I got in touch to get the items exchanged. The next day I get an ebay email saying that the sellers account had been compromised, they are dealing with it and not to contact the seller. Only I had already ordered more stuff on that day and there were no issues with their page. My stuff came today too. It's like they have no idea what is going on.

if a buyer tries to open a case too early eBay won't let them - perhaps that is what they meant?

dillite · 06/02/2015 16:24

But then wouldn't the buyer try and open a case later? Do you even need to wait to open a case as a buyer?

OP posts:
Auburnsparkle · 06/02/2015 16:56

yes they may try and open a case later. And yes, they have to wait until the delivery time has passed before they can open a case. Too early and eBay stop you opening the case.

glammanana · 06/02/2015 18:23

This is the first one of these messages I have got since before xmas so maybe ebay have been stopping cases being opened due to the glitches they have had over the past few weeks which stopped some sellers getting their post out on time.I have had a few of these messages but had no complaints from buyers only the one I have mentioned above ^^.

nauticant · 07/02/2015 11:45

I read it as ebay saying that normally they positively assist buyers to rip off sellers but sometimes they don't provide the assistance. We are not worthy.
