sold a piece of tech on ebay last May.

Last night buyer sends message to say the item has stopped working and can they have a refund.

Surely they're being unreasonable?! This item was working fine when it was sold and they were happy with it at the time.

Should I contact ebay? What do you tell the buyer? (Apart from f the f off...)

Just delete and ignore. Delete and ignore.

Do this. If he's a nutter and he gets sufficiently annoyed by your responses, he might stupidly file a small claim in any case and that would be a pain.

Redglitter · 03/02/2015 09:23

Let him do what he wants. PayPal won't be interested nor will eBay. Just ignore his messages don't engage into conversation with him at all

CaptainAnkles · 03/02/2015 09:32

I think I would seek advice from ebay just in case. Clearly they're in the wrong but you do hear of them siding with the buyer on some really weird cases. How much did they pay?

Auburnsparkle · 03/02/2015 09:34

There is nothing the buyer can do except go to small claims court. This is way out of time to open a not as described case. How much was the item?

FluffyRedSocks · 03/02/2015 09:41

I wouldn't delete the messages though, worth keeping on the off chance he is a complete tool going to take it further..

Redglitter · 03/02/2015 09:55

Ebay won't be in the slightest bit interested after this length of time. They're not going to side with a buyer who's had 9 months use out an item. besides you can only file reports with them up til something like 90 days

My mum bought me a teddy bear in 1971. It is now missing most of its fur, an ear, one eye and has had to be stitched numerous times. Should she take it back for a refund? (tilts head, bats eyelashes). Smile

OnceUponATimeAgain · 03/02/2015 10:09

hahaha "Knock yourself out sunshine" would be my response

Annietheacrobat · 03/02/2015 10:35

Ok maybe not delete. Just ignore

BrendaBlackhead · 03/02/2015 11:35

I read that Paypal have now changed their policy to allow refunds up to 180 days !!!

Can you imagine? You buy a dress, wear it all summer, then ask for a refund. You buy a DVD, a CD, a game, an anything in fact and then after six months get your money back. It's ludicrous and business sellers on various fora were saying they were going to pack in selling as this would ruin them.

Most people are honest but it only takes a growing small number of what are basically thieves and the whole thing collapses.

If a dishonest buyer makes a claim towards the 180 days limit, by that point the completed ebay auction will have been deleted and the buyer will struggle to prove anything, eg damage shown in photos.

I don't think "allowing" is the same as enforcing though.
