Collect + have delivered my item to a non existent address

I spent £50 on an item on ebay and tracked delivery which was due yesterday. I was in all afternoon and noticed at 6pm tracking system stated that item had been delivered (it hadn't).
I contacted Collect + with details and have received a reply to say the item was left with a neighbour who signed for it. The house number of 'the neighbour' does not exist (nor do I recognise the name).
Seller has sent me a copy of the label used which is correct.

I have informed Collect + of this and am waiting for a response.

Does anyone have experience of this problem, any chance of me seeing my item ever or how do I go about recouping my money? (2nd hand item so not replaceable by seller).

I thought collect plus only delivered to local shops for you to collect, do they do home deliveries now too?

Seems so but unfortunately to someone else's home Angry

I think Click and Collect are the local shop service

the seller will need to refund you and then they must take it up with Collect +.

Put in a claim for item not received.

Your contract is with the seller and it's for them to refund you. Their contract is with Collect + so they need to chase up the whereabouts of the missing parcel and get their money back from the company if necessary.

Don't let the seller tell you that you need to do it or that you need to wait until the courier resolves the problem and pays them. This simply isn't true.

Tell the seller what's happened and what you want them to do (i.e. provide a refund). Open a case if they don't oblige pdq and then escalate for Ebay's decision if need be.

OK, thanks, that's helpful.

I'm intrigued to know where the item has ended up, how can they claim to deliver to a non existent address when they have a label with the correct address and postcode?
Have they ditched it and gone home for tea?

trouble is with a not received claim - you won't win because the seller has proof the item has been delivered. You are relying on the goodwill of the seller here. Opening a case will just annoy them and not necessarily get your money back.

If you have tracking I would contact Collect + yourself - either on FB or Twitter.

I've contacted Collect + with details (after they informed me item had been to delivered) and have copied the correspondence to seller who has been apologetic and friendly so far.

I believe the issue is between Collect + and seller as they haven't provided the service he paid for (other than the issue that I've forked out £50 and haven't received anything but hassle).
I'll wait and see how they respond to the information that the address the driver delivered to doesn't exist.

Trying to gauge how good their customer services was in situations like this, mildly reassured I wasn't met with a barrage of replies describing similar issues.

Collect + have admitted error and apparently the driver is going to the address to 'retrieve' the item.

Really hoping that it'll finally arrive but not holding my breath.

I had something similar as a seller. Hermes apparently delivered my package to an incorrect address but were miraculously able to retrieve it when I raised a complaint. I suspect in my case they hadn't actually delivered it at all but for some reason someone decided to mark it as "delivered" while it was sit in a depot.
