Sending via My Hermes - signature or not?

I was hoping some experienced MN ebayers could help me.

I have been sending stuff out via My Hermes with a signature required as its cheaper than the Post Office. I would say 90% of my items are under 1kg so costs £3.78 (£2.78 without sig).

My question is do I need to pay the £1 for the signature as it all appears to be tracked by Hermes anyway?

My aim is to keep costs down for buyers and attract more bids but I'm afraid of being scammed.

no - I don't bother, there is no need.

The Hermes tracking is sufficient for ebay proof of delivery

I only go for signature when I'm adding insurance if the item is high value

Ummm difficult one this one . . . had the last 2 parcels delivered by Hermes and they're are a pain in the arse! The first was an X-box. Bought of a Saturday hoping to arrive for next weekend and after 2 attempts the Courier didn't leave a phone number but i left a note saying i would be home all day Saturday to which he replied be back Monday! Monday he came before i was home from the school run but luckily left it with my neighbour. A signature was required. The problem with not getting a signature even though it will save you a pound is people can say it's not arrived and ask for a refund. The Post Office service can be just as bad. I recently demanded a refund as i waited over a week and then came home to a card telling me my parcel was at the sorting office and I had to pay an extra £1.11 and It was small enough to get through the letterbox! I did get my money back. Unfortunately I don't think there is a perfect solution. Depends on what you are sending and how much it's worth i think. I find communication between you and the buyer helps a lot and visa versa. This helps to protect your feedback.

Deeky - that is wrong. You do not need a signature to prove delivery with Hermes. A buyer cannot claim not received as the Hermes tracking will show it has arrived!

Good point Chrissy so therefore no need to pay the extra £1 as already said

Excellent, thank you for all the fast responses everyone!

I requested a signature on a recent package. Hermes tracking information stated delivered and signature received. The buyer got in touch to say he hadn't received the package. I opened a case with Hermes and a couple of days later the seller said "thanks, item now arrived". Tonight I got a summary from Hermes apologising for late delivery. Their explanation is simply a pack of lies.

So, initial tracking result was lies and apology was lies. I suppose I should be grateful the item arrived at all.
