eBay sellers - question re couriers

Hi

I'm just looking for a bit of reassurance. I bought a car seat case from eBay - but the listing (a BiN) said the seller was away between certain dates. The start date of the Hol was the day I bought it so I wasn't expecting anything more until today at the earliest (last day of the Hol according to the listing).

I got an email this morning saying the item had been despatched. Shortly followed by a call asking if I'd received the item. The seller claimed that they'd left the base in their garage for collection by the courier and it was marked as delivered. I've not received anything - and as I didn't buy the item until after 9pm on a Sunday I just wanted to check that it would have been possible for the seller to arrange a Courier at that time?

I've messaged the seller through eBay. But so far have had no response and haven't been sent the tracking details. I know I should be able to get the money back as paid through PayPal. But I'm just not sure if I should be doing anything else.

The seller has 99.6% good feedback as well.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Paypal won't refund you if they have proof of delivery. If it shows as delivered but you haven't got it you are relying on the seller refunding and hopefully claiming for the loss from the courier really.

But yes, online courier can be arranged any time of day. It could have been collected the next day.

So I wouldn't get money back if I could prove it had been mis delivered? I always get larger parcels delivered to my works address and we're a small company so I do know everyone.

Suppose I'll just have to wait and see if I hear from the seller for the moment.

Apologies for drip feeding. The item currently says despatched and no tracking available.

If there's no tracking/sign for then I think you're okay and will get a refund via paypal.

Jacksonville14 · 05/09/2014 18:01

so they are lying and they don't have proof of delivery?

I would open a not received case if I were you. When does the tracking say it was dispatched?

ToniWol · 06/09/2014 11:24

I only got the message saying it was despatched yesterday. But the phone call seemed to suggest it had been despatched earlier. The item listing says there's no tracking but the phone call suggested otherwise.

Will give the seller a couple of days to send me tracking info and open a dispute if not received by then.

There is a possibility the items been Mis-delivered as there's other companies that share the postcode and if it had been delivered on a weekend my office isn't open. But without the tracking info I can't really look into that properly.

Thanks for the advice.

I wonder if they've just sent it late and are trying to pretend they haven't?

Jacksonville14 · 06/09/2014 14:01

Well if you open a dispute now this still gives them 8 days to provide tracking info which is plenty. When was it due for delivery - you don't want to run out of time. You only have 30 days to open a dispute now, not 45.

ToniWol · 07/09/2014 21:49

The original listing said due for delivery 28-29 August - but due to the info in the listing about the sellers holiday I wasn't expecting it to be dispatched until Friday at the earliest.

I've requested the tracking info. Giving the seller until tomorrow and will open a dispute then if I've not received a satisfactory reply to my messages (probably evening. I suspect will be too busy at work to do at lunchtime). May also check the next door office in case it's been mis-delivered there.

Just to say thank you for all your help. I opened the dispute and the seller confirmed that the Courier had lost it. He's supplied me with a reconditioned replacement with a years warranty on it (given that the original listing was for a used item I think not a bad deal) which we've been able to fit successfully into the car.

Gah. Just a follow up. Am I right in thinking the seller should be arranging for the courier to return the original package to him free if charge? It would have been collected approx 3 weeks ago and they've only just delivered it today! It was a 3 day delivery that he's paid for.

Thanks

what was collected? You only received the replacement today or the lost item?

ToniWol · 19/09/2014 07:53

The original item arrived. 3.5 weeks after being collected and on a 3 day delivery. Seller has already been compensated though so has arranged a pick up with a different company today.

and you have received the replacement?

In that case it is their responsibility to arrange the return of the delayed item.

ToniWol · 19/09/2014 09:06

Yes. Replacement arrived least Friday and is already in the car. As I said. Seller has arranged for collection by a different courier today as he's already been compensated by the original courier for the loss of the parcel.

so the seller is arranging the return free of charge? am confused what your question is?

ToniWol · 20/09/2014 23:43

When I asked the original question re the return the seller hadn't confirmed what he wanted to do. But contacted me fairly quickly. I was just wanting to check that I wasn't making a faux pas assuming that they would arrange the return (as I originally said, I thought this may be something he'd arrange with the original courier as it was their fault we'd gone through the whole replacement business).
