Hi. I bought an item from a private seller last week. The item would be a small package to send and the buyer stated it would be sent 1st Class with Royal Mail. Anyway the seller only charged £3.20 for postage. Yesterday I contacted the seller as I still had not received it. The seller told me that the £3.20 did not cover First Class postage so therefore she sent it Second Class. Now I have been in this situation before where I haven't charged enough for postage but I have always sent it as advertised and just put it down to experience. Am I wrong in thinking she should have sent it First Class. I'm not going to make a fuss but am just interested in what you all think. Smile

I think she should have honoured it or got it sent out asap.

She's contracted to give you a specific service, so has reneged on that. She should have asked you very nicely if you would mind her sending the item at the cheaper rate so she didn't end up out of pocket. And final decision would have been yours.

Morally (I mean feedback specifically), I think What you do next depends on how inconvenient you find the situation.

Thanks for your answers. Crazy thing is I would not have had a problem with a cheaper service or even paying some extra for 1st class. What got me was she didn't ask me!

Unless Royal Mail have increased their prices since 12 noon today then £3.20 is the exact cost of a small packet sent by First Class post.

First class signed for would have been £4.30, but even if the seller has sent by second class signed for that would still be £3.90 so still not covered by the amount you have paid. The only cheaper method is standard second class at £2.80.

I agree with the above posters that it should have been honoured at the service and cost you have paid - the seller has been rather cheeky to say the least.
You can report the seller to Ebay for non-performance and also leave appropriate feedback of your choice.

I think, morally, since it's not really been a problem for you, I would not report them or trash their f/back. But I might leave a factual comment with positive f/back, along the lines of "Everything fine but I wish you had asked me before changing the delivery service used."

They should be grateful to get off so lightly.
