Buyer didn't turn up...

I sold our cooker a week or two ago - buyer emailed me for our postcode (it's a buyer collects one) which I responded to straight away and asked when he'd pick it up. Didn't hear anything for a week so I emailed again. He replied saying he'd had transport issues but would give us 24hrs notice of collection (not quite what I'd thought as he'd have to fit in with us, but never mind).

He emailed this morning asking if he could collect at around 6pm. I said fine, gave our full address and asked for a contact number. Didn't hear back.

DH has just spent 45 minutes waiting in and he never turned up! DH had to go out to work so couldn't hang around any longer. I think this was a reasonable amount of time to wait and I did email twice in that time in case the buyer picked the email up.

That was fair, wasn't it? Poor DH had to sit outside the house in the cold as we're having building work done and there was nowhere inside he could get to!

send a cancellation request to get your fees back and block them and then after the case is closed you can relist. If they ignore it then it closes in 7 days.

Thanks Lavender. He has actually paid so I'm not sure why he's not more interested in picking it up..?!

well in that case you must refund the paypal immediately - you never take paypal for collected items ever

and either ask for cash or send cancellation request.

Eek I didn't realise that - why shouldn't I use PayPal? I thought that was always the safest way? (eBay novice) I have no desire to mess the buyer around but they've been less than forthcoming so far! Happy to refund it if they ask but I'd rather they pick it up as I want rid of it!

They have you over a barrel now - they have paid but you haven't given them the item. I'd email and say it needs to be collected within 24 hours or you will refund. Once it is sorted, block them.

I once had a similar situation, and the chap stopped contacting me at all. We were moving house and ended up leaving the item of furniture behind and never heard from him again. Very odd.

why shouldn't I use PayPal?

If the buyer turns out to be dishonest, they can claim their money back from PayPal and you can do nothing about it as you do not have a tracking number for the item. it's crap!

LavenderGreen14 · 08/05/2014 08:07

because they can claim not received and have your item for free. Cash only. So you need to refund them now. And tell them if they don't turn up with cash within a certain time frame you will presume they no longer want it and will cancel the transaction and relist.

Ah I see what you mean... I hadn't thought of that. They have contacted me to say that they were let down last night and will collect soon, so is it reasonable to get back to them and say that's fine but I will refund PayPal and they will need to pay me in cash?

Okay, have refunded payment and asked buyer to pay cash instead. Have marked it as unpaid on my eBay account. Anything else I need to do? Can I change the payment method on eBay so that he can't pay via paypal again?

no there is nothing else to do - except to send a cancellation request if he doesn't proceed with the sale.

TheReluctantCountess · 09/05/2014 12:29

Have they made contact?

SquidgyMaltLoaf · 09/05/2014 19:33

Yes, hopefully coming this weekend. I have asked for cash... Fingers crossed!
