It clearly says UK only but they have gone ahead and won the items without contacting me first and asking if I ship to Poland. They haven't paid yet. Where do I stand?

Well work out how much it would cost to ship to Poland, tell them and see what they say.

I would be wary. I once had this and I reluctantly agreed to post the item to Australia. Once received, the buyer said it was the wrong item bug refused to send it back for a refund because postage was too expensive.

With hindsight I wish I had made my initial contact a breezy 'I note you are in Australia, but as it was UK only listing, what UK address should I send it to?' to see what she said.

Yes I have sent a message saying I am sorry but it's uk only as stated . It's two flower girl dresses and they have brought both under seperate listing.

They may have a friend or relative in the uk, or they may be happy to pay the courier costs. If these are fairly expensive items don't post second class without getting recorded delivery anyway as if the buyer pays by paypal and you haven't got trackable delivery info they can claim the item is not received.

Is that even with proof of postage idont ??

Personally, I find out how much royal mail postage is to poland (I suspect it will be high) email the buyer with cost. Give a few days to reply/pay. If no response, send cancellation request. Have you the option of offering item to next highest bidder?

IDontDoIroning · 04/05/2014 09:30

Yes - proof of postage will allow you to reclaim from Royal Mail but this is of limited money value I believe. I guess it depends on the price paid for your items in comparison to the postage cost.
Electronic tracked info is required by paypal. It's a real pain as it's open to abuse by scammers. Oh and never accept paypal from collections either as there's no proof of delivery.

IDontDoIroning · 04/05/2014 09:33

You could find out if the tracked Royal Mail postage covers Poland and how much it will cost and if your buyer will pay. I have done this a few times, but you would be within your rights to cancel the transaction.

LavenderGreen14 · 04/05/2014 10:12

proof of postage will not stop ebay refunding them the money - you need trackable delivery to help you win a case

you can send them a cancellation request to get your fees back, and then relist, but tighten your settings so overseas bidders cannot bid, just saying in the auction you won't accept them isn't enough.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/05/2014 11:28

It isn't advisable to ship them to a different address, so even if the buyer does have a UK relative or friend who will take delivery and send them on, that is unwise for you as a seller.

I would advise cancelling the sale - I think you can do it mutually, or just from your side.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/05/2014 11:30

Here's a page with information about how to go about cancelling the sale - it says if you need to cancel the sale because the item is broken, or 'for another reason' - well, imo, a seller who has bid from outside the UK, when the listing clearly said you would only sell to UK bidders, is a clear, good reason to cancel the sale.

When I had the same problem I followed LavenderGreen's advice and it worked out fine. I sent a cancellation request and explained to the prospective buyer that the shipping cost would towards £100. They were fine about it. As a result I got a refund of my final fee of £22.
