Does the buyer always win in disputes?

I recently sold a dress. The buyer has had it for about 10 days (time to wear it to an event last weekend). They have now come back and said it smells 'musty' and they want to send it back.

I know that it was perfectly OK when it was sent and want to fight this, but I'm wondering if it's worth it. I've never had a dispute as a seller, and have heard that the buyer always wins. I am aware that I have no proof that the item did not smell...

Should I suck it up and accept it back or get them to raise a dispute? Thanks.

yes generally they do - and if you refuse they can just dispute and send you back an item they have willfully damaged. Not worth the hassle really.

No always

I had a seller sent something to the wrong address using a tracking system. The address was in my postcode area but not in my street and the occupants denied signing for it.

So I had no item, opened a case and was refused a refund on the basis that it was signed for and close enough to my house. The seller gave no explanation why they sent it t the wrong address just produced the tracking info and won.

that is a not received case which is entirely different though. And it is bad luck too if it was delivered to somewhere so close.

So have to suck it up then? Bugger! I hate this kind of thing.

Thanks, guys.
