What does a buyer get sent when you open an unpaid case?

Out of interest really! Looks like I'm going to have to open another case this evening (about my fifth I think).

Do they just get sent a polite invoice by ebay? Or a stroppy email saying they haven't paid? Are they told a case has been opened against them?

yes they are told to pay, and if they don't they are issued a strike. Too many strikes and they risk losing their account.

Thanks Lavender... Is it a polite invoice though, or quite arsey? I never know whether to email them politely first or just go straight to unpaid case after 48 hours.

My one and only neutral feedback was from someone who got huffy when I opened a case against her and she then paid

it is a polite reminder

I really don't see why you should email and ask before opening a case - just get on and open it. If they aren't going to pay they aren't going to pay.

Ebay only send polite reminders, they'll have had several previous reminders about needing to pay, as well.

I would email politely before filing UID BECAUSE if they pay they can still leave you f/back; you want them to think you did everything you could to avoid being nasty about payment. You've had this experience already, haven't you?

Thanks both. Yes I've had about 4 non payers. 3 of them didn't pay and presumably got strikes against their names.

The fourth paid the day after I opened a case, but left me neutral feedback and a very blah comment. She'd got an absolute bargain and I'd posted it as soon as she paid, so her comment was clearly "revenge" for me opening a case.

I just wish people would pay straight away, I always do. The listing ended on a Sunday evening so it's not even typical work/ bath time/ kids running riot.

I think I'd give them more than 48 hours before opening a case to be honest.

I send an invoice when the auction finishes, then another after 48 hours then if still not contact after that, open a case on day 4. That way, they'll have had at least 2 emails prior to the case being open giving them the opportunity to pay.

Humph. I've just looked at their feedback and they only joined ebay this year, and only have feedback of 2!

Feeling much less well disposed now...
