I am selling a eco friendly leather boots mint condition on eBay. The only bit on it is £0.99.
Item finishes soon and the bidder messaged me asking if I am ok to wait for payment in one week time.
Really???
I know there are p&p costs involved, but if you don't have money to pay asap, just don't bid.
I honestly don't know what to reply.
Of course I could wait, but this person is taking the piss.

Your buyers are happy
To pay the postage that's the main thing!

But you know yourself this will be a lesson learnt for u regarding timings and starting prices

boogiewoogie · 20/03/2014 19:32

I might be wrong here but I thought the earliest you can open an unpaid case was 4 days after the end of the auction. Really, OP what is the rush? If they don't pay after that then you can open a case and that will remind them to pay, if not then you get your fees back and then you relist which in your case you seem to prefer.

LavenderGreen14 · 20/03/2014 19:32

no it is 48 hours now - they changed it recently.

boogiewoogie · 20/03/2014 19:35

Okay, I take it back, I've set mine so that it opens a case after 4 days. I must be quite laid back when it comes to being paid as soon as the auction finishes.

Flibbertyjibbet · 20/03/2014 19:44

I have been sometimes asked if I will wait for a payment. I always say yes. A lot of people buying on ebay do so because its the only way they can buy nice stuff - 2nd hand.

She might have to wait for payday or tax credits. I'd just wait for the payment then send them. What harm will it do you to just wait a bit? If you wait 48 hours then 4 days for a payment request, that's 6 days and she asked to pay in a week.

Honestly can't see what the problem is unless you are in financial straits yourself.

(I don't think £8 is excessive for postage on boots).

Flibbertyjibbet · 20/03/2014 19:46

Sorry just noticed that the person who asked you to wait, isn't the winning bidder.... durrrr.

DrOwh · 21/03/2014 08:14

I wanted to know the earliest I can open a case because I would rather not sell and relist.

can open a case 48 hours after auction finished

Impatientismymiddlename · 21/03/2014 17:45

Are you opening a case and delisting because you are still not happy with the price?
To be honest I think it's rotten when a seller refuses to sell an item because they are not happy with the selling price.
People that do that should be banned from using ebay. Whether you are new to selling or not, surely you must have realised that an item can attract no bids or just one bid for the starting price. If you have a minimum acceptable price then you should start the listing at that price and be prepared to pay the listing fees if your item doesn't attract a single bid due to your opening price being too high or people just not wanting your item.

LavenderGreen14 · 21/03/2014 17:52

no the OP is talking about an unpaid case if the buyer doesn't pay - she is not refusing to sell at all. Please read the thread before calling the OP rotten!

Impatientismymiddlename · 21/03/2014 18:54

Errr, I did read the thread. Did you read it or did you just ignore this bit that she wrote:

So the boots were sold but I am not happy with the price. Can I refuse to send it? Buyer hasn't paid yet, should I tell her not to pay.

LokiDokey · 21/03/2014 18:59

Impatient so you read the bit where OP said:

bidder messaged me asking if I am ok to wait for payment in one week time.

That bidder then went on to win the item. We are now into a totally separate issue. Whether OP is happy with the price or not she is unwilling to wait a week for payment (and nor should she have to).

DrOwh · 21/03/2014 19:22

The item hasn't been paid for yet.

OP posts:
LavenderGreen14 · 21/03/2014 19:30

OP said 'I will send the boots to the lucky winner and put it down to bitter experience'.

And the winning bidder was not the person who asked them to wait for payment, this is a different bidder.

LokiDokey · 21/03/2014 19:33

Lavender apologies I read it as the bidder won.

Still doesn't change the fact that this is a different issue though and OP shouldn't be judged by her initial reluctance to send the item.

DrOwh · 21/03/2014 19:35

That is why I asked here.
I was reluctant at first and wanted advice on rules.

OP posts:
Impatientismymiddlename · 21/03/2014 19:58

The OP doesn't want to sell them because she is not happy with the price. She wants to relist them and get more money for them. There person who wanted to delay payment was not the winning bidder. The OP asked whether it was acceptable to ask the winning bidder not to pay so she could relist them and hope to get more.
She wants to know whether cancelling the sale on that basis was within the rules.

Am I reading a different thread?

TeaAndALemonTart · 21/03/2014 20:05

If I were you I would hope they don't pay and then start higher next time. I don't think your postage was that bad tbh.
