Paypal holding my money - why??!

I've just sold something for £55 and really need to transfer the money out of my Paypal account as am quite broke at the moment, but although buyer has collected and thus I've marked it as despatched, I've had an email to say Paypal may sit on my funds for up to 21 days - why?

I sold a whole load of things back in late summer/early autumn last year (about a dozen different auctions) and in all cases was able to access the money immediately. The email said they were holding my money 'based on my history as an eBay seller' - but I have 100% positive feedback and have never had any kind of issues or complaints. So what's going on suddenly? I'm really annoyed.

The only thing I can think of is that I've only got 17 transactions on my record, but last year when I started my run of selling things I wasn't even in double figures, yet my money was available immediately. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

oh dear - you should never take paypal for a collected item - cash only.

Just hope they don't claim not received and get a refund.

gamerchick · 31/01/2014 21:58

yes you never do paypal for collected item. Confused

snottagecheese · 31/01/2014 22:18

Oh. Well, it's too late now. But that doesn't explain why Paypal are holding my money... does it?!

because you aren't an established seller.

snottagecheese · 31/01/2014 22:45

Sure, but as I said, I sold a bunch of things last autumn and Paypal monies were released to me immediately - so why has it changed? That's what I don't get...

you will have to ask ebay - I don't have all the answers. If it was a high risk item like a mobile phone then that can be why.

ShowMeSaturn · 01/02/2014 00:55

If you haven't listed in a long while, Paypal can hold your funds. You can speed up the release process by encouraging the buyer to leave Positive feedback.

To repeat other posts never, ever use Paypal for collection items. The loophole exists and is sometimes abused by unscrupulous buyers to make a claim for non receipt of item, even if you had video footage of the pushchair being taken away from your home, no court would uphold your case, as if you read the Paypal T&Cs it is clearly stipulated you renege your rights in this instance.

Obviously, nobody reads the T&Cs in life.

Hi, I have 250+ sales on ebay 100% f/b and they did this
to me at the end of sept last year, they dont have to have a reason they say, although reasons COULD be
50 or less sales, not leaving f/b fast enough, not sending registered/signed for, or not uploading tracking fast enough
Also low dsr scores can affect if they hold your money.
If u have your tracking numbers and leave f/b straighr away msg paypal to say you have done it and your money will be released in 3 days as thats what happened to me.
Hope that helps.

glammanana · 02/02/2014 18:13

Yes it could be the DSR score people still leave positive feedback but may mark you down on postage/delivery time this happened to my friend last year and she had to wait until positive feed back from buyer always make sure you email your purchaser with postage updates as well I send email myself as part of the process as the ones from ebay/paypal are often lost in cyber space for days.
