PayPal when collecting goods, why not?

I've sold something on eBay which is collection only. The buyer immediately paid via PayPal but hasn't collected yet.

I've seen a couple of threads on here which have said people shouldn't accept paypal payments for collection items - cash only on collection.

I'm not sure why and now I'm a bit worried. Should I refund and ask for cash on collection?

TIA

because they claim not received and get their money back

yes refund and ask for cash

But anyone could do that surely? Even with posted items, unless they're sent recorded?

yes exactly - which is why you send with proof of delivery - it is part of the paypal agreement

If you accept paypal, always always send with online tracking/proof of delivery.

It's the first thing paypal will ask you for in the event of a not received dispute. If you haven't got it - you're stuffed.

A signed bit of paper, photo of the buyer with the item etc will not cut it.

You need tracking to the confirmed paypal address.

I recently returned something using the contact address on the listing - there was a problem with the refund - I opened a case and the seller said 'yeah, return it, here's the address' and it was a different one.

I had proof he had signed for it at the contact address, but because the address he gave to paypal for the return was different, they said nope, cannot accept this.

Luckily they took pity on me and refunded me anyway but it was an awful moment.

When I sell stuff on eBay that I have to post, I always get proof of posting from the post office, I never send recorded unless it's a high value item.

So, if I ask the buyer to sign the PayPal receipt as collected when it's collected, that won't be enough???

no of course it won't - anyone could sign a bit of paper claiming the buyer signed it - means square root of bugger all in a paypal claim

and proof of posting is not proof of delivery, so you are relying on the buyer being honest.

no, no, no. You can only accept paypal if you post the item or send it by online trackable courier.

paypal is biased to buyer!

collected items - ALWAYS cash.
